Most likely for liability reasons because people don’t properly check compression and bump height. If you use the OEM with their extension they know 100% they’ll be safe.

it used to be because the LCAs didn't have strike pads for hydro bumps. They didn't want people bumping off a non reinforced part on the arms. I'm sure this has changed now. They would always recommend stock bumps with the spacer just in case but to properly turn your shocks. They were really good at giving you contacts or shim stack specs if you were single shock so you didn't bottom out hard and same with a bypass setup. Now with all of the bigger and heavier TL rigs with 4x4 and bigger bumpers being popular, valving heavy is going to have to happen.

This is the valving I had on a set of 2.5 King c/o upfront without a bypass on a 1st gen 4x4 TC kit

    12,12,F,20s on compression
    12s on rebound

Cool, thanks for all the info. Eventually I will probably go with some bypasses as well but that's not at all a priority.

Yep when I got my kit they stated that the same thing about the lca isn’t designed to be bumped off any hydro and recommend the extension of the stock bumps. They can still cause long term deformation due to this design and will not warranty the LCAs if this is the cause of failure so I just did as per their manual spec. Havnt has any issues for a few years now, but then again nothing is really certain in LT applications anyway.

What's the "F" referring to on the compression?

Flutter, so a smaller diameter shim in between two larger ones to help soak up small chatter bumps.

I'm familiar with flutter stacks. I've just never seen them referred to as "f." Thanks for the insight!

Can anyone explain exactly what these compression valving specs mean.
Rebound I get that its a stack of 0.012" shims, but I get a little more lost on the identification of the compression valving.

Stack of 0.012" shims then a smaller 0.012" shim and then a larger 0.020" flutter shim?

    Valving:
    Comp: 12,12,F,20's
    Reb: 12

I found this in my old folder from 2011 when I revalved.

The first two shims are 0.012" then there is a small spacer then the final shims are 0.020" I think the ones with the blue zip tie are the comp stack and you can see the gap

    Cool thanks.

First two shims meaning the two largest shims?

That f-flutter is just a fulcrum for the top to shims to flex easily on for small chop kind of stuff, then the eventually hit the 20s to provide more resistance. How you space that flutter, the diameter and thickness of it can make huge changes
