Leaf sprung long travel. How much does your axle move side to side? Say 25mph on pavement, adjust drivers side mirror down so you can see the tire. I’m seeing maybe 2” of tire movement left to right. Unless I’m seeing body roll in the tire. I think this may be the handling issue I’ve been fighting.

If your axles was moving 1-2'' side to side you'd know it...because your axle would near be falling off.

Way more likely you're seeing body roll. Easy theory to test. Jack up the truck and push the axle while its hanging from the side.

If the wheels look like they are vibrating and shaking while rolling, you have a bent axle shaft.

I had this happen on my old single cab and couldn’t figure it out. Right after I sold the truck, the new owner mentioned that my u-bolts were loose and that was the issue. Felt pretty dumb after hearing that but hopefully that helps someone else.

Leaf springs move side to side a lot, during racing my tires would rub my shocks that were at least 6” away. Drop your rear end up and push side to side on the axle and see.

Anyone have pictures of shock towers poking through the wheel well into the bed? Not looking for a bed cage but more a shock tower.

I've been chasing this issue for years and cannot figure it out. It's gotten much worse that it's dangerous and scary to drive over 50mph when the road has lateral ruts in it including the freeway. I80 over Donner summit is a 45mph handful. I checked the ubolts and while they weren't super tight they were secure. It still did it after tightening. All the rear leaf spring bushings are new Energy poly bushings. Leaf springs only have 3 trips after re-arch. As I said, I've been chasing for years so it's not leaf springs as this is the 3rd set (went from Deaver and now 2 re-works on the current set). The only thing I can think of now is the shackles are moving side to side. Pictured is how it was built. There is, pending how the truck is sitting, up to a 1/4 inch gap between the shackle and the guide plate. But the truck doesn't move side to side when you shake it any more than 4 other LT trucks I shook this weekend. I'm going to try and double the glide plate material so there is no gap all the time and see if this works. I am open to any other suggestions. Front end is all new from the hub to the steering wheel. Again, this issue has been going on for a long, long, long time so it's nothing "new".

Sorry, after re-read I didn't give the handling issue.
Back end wanders, steps out in lateral ruts real bad. I80 in the truck ruts it will change lanes at a 45* angle with no steering wheel movement. Changing lanes on flat freeway is a two handful and it doesn't want to move then takes off into the next lane. Off road it handles great after you set the rear into the turns.

Is everything tight on the front? We were chasing a similar issue on a truck and found that the LCA ball joints were super loose and the shock bushings were gone, that truck would steer side to side based on throttle movement alone. Anything that caused nose rise or dive made it track side to side with no force on the wheel.

Front end is tight and good. New spindles (uprights), hubs/bearings are 1 year old, upper and lower uniballs are new, shock heims are new, uca heims are new, lca bushings are new, tie rods inner and outer new within a year, steering shafts new with a year, steering rack replaced within a year. Front end is new hub to hub to steering wheel within the last year. This condition has been happening too long for the parts that are causing it not to have been replaced due to maintenance at one time or another.

Throw a Gopro off the rear bumper to watch the rear end from underneath?
    - do your leaf packs have centering Pins?
    - is the issue consistent? or random?

Also... more questions about the front end
    - how much caster do you run?
    - do you know your Scrub Radius?

leaf packs have center pins and the issue is consistent and getting worse. last alignment was 3.4 deg caster, -0.9 camber. Not sure on scrub radius.

I used to run 32 psi but now run 30 psi on Goodyear MTR with Kevlar. Switching to KM3's soon.
