Maybe it just needs the same thick washer that most bushing uppers use against that OE bolt sleeve ?

 

That's a good point. If the truck had bushing upper arms with the washers in place the mounts are set that wide. My truck is that way and I have to put the washers from the bushing arms in there.

 

Same for mine, had to stack some washers to close the gap between the heim and the mount

To all those that installed their dmz kit. How difficult is it to properly locate the shackle hangers? Ive read a lot about bushing issues because of them being installed slightly offset. And basically just getting everything in alignment like spring perches ect. My brothers a fairly proficient welder/fabricator/ car guy who’s happy to help so im lucky there. But he’s got a new infant besides everything else on his plate so want to gauge what all we’d be getting into. Probably have a local shop build the cage if I don’t end up buying the dmz one and do all the shock angle stuff/ bed cutting. Just trying to save some cash on the install and seems like a good amject

I'm guessing as long as you go by the directions included in the kit and email pics to Tim if anything is confusing, you'd be able to take your time and do it.

 

The rear took me forever. I was by myself and like I said I don’t know shit. Prolly took me 100+ hours. I’m sure you guys will burn it up and run titties

 

Speaking of directions. I copied a guy the did it wrong.
It wasn’t included by Tim.
The spring perches are mounted opening toward the front of the truck

Did you have to remove them or get them to work as is?

 

I left them backwards. It’s fine.it does affect how you mount the shock, was designed to have one leg inside the perch. But I didn’t need it. Geometry was fine.

 

Install is not bad. Just follow the directions and keep measuring things over and over to make sure they are straight and where they need to be.

As for the perches being backwards, the instructions included don’t mention anything about orientation so I did them backwards as well. Only issue was I had to trim the inner shock mounts to sit flat against the spring perch instead of curving around the axle. Super easy fix and doesn’t affect anything.

And as others have said, Tim is super great to work with. Answered my call on a weekend because my weld on sliders covered the reference point he uses for locating the front spring hangar. Within about 20 min he emailed me pictures of two other reference points that I could use for my situation.

 

Actually the install is pretty easy. Its a single measurement for the front hangers. Then another single measurement from the front hangar to locate the rear hangers. The biggest pain in the ass is cutting off all the stock hangers and shock mounts. My suggestion would be to either rent or buy a plasma cutter. It will save you tons of time IMO. I also put my perches on backwards and it made no difference because they way I mounted my shocks the lower shock tabs located outside the spring perches anyways. My shocks (16 inch triple bypasses) are only about 3/4 inches aways from the frame.
I'm also a long bed so i'm not sure if that changes things compared the short beds.
