Is the difference in quality something that will be noticeable for the average weekend warrior? It's only $500 between the two series for my application. Is that savings worth the extra hassle? Or will the lower quality series eat up the difference with tuning costs?

    Thanks.
    Jim

you wont notice a difference if your just a weekend warrior . just go with the performance series unless your racing the thing more than a few times a year. the red class 7 TSA motorsports truck is running performance series without major issue. im sure you can find plenty of other ways to spend the 500$ saved.

What extra tuning hassle? they tune the same , the race series are just a little more work to rebuild and require a few special tools .
I wouldn't say that that the performance series are lower quality at all, their just not over built to contend with long distance abuse and higher temps/pressures like the race series.

have you seen the physical differences between the two series? if not order the king catalog , it describes the differences between the two.

I know very little about tuning shocks. So I figured re-valving and recharging the shocks would eat up the $500 after X amount of re-tunes.

I'll have to get that catalog. I'm still on tour so all I have is Internet research. Thanks for the info!

you would eat up the same amount of money tuning performance series or race series. shim stacks are 15$ a set and recharge is like 5$ a shock at most. just take the 500$ you save and buy a complete shim set , nitrogen setup and and a few gallons of oil and youll still have some money to play with .
most shops charge anywhere between 55-75$ a shock to rebuild and revalve, if you cant do it yourself.a simple revalve is usually cheaper since the oil dosent have to be changed. and for a weekend warrior a good shock guy can get you pretty close in 1 or 2 revalves.
in the 4 or 5 years i had my kings i never HAD to rebuild them . i just do it for piece of mind. shit we will race a whole season with the tsa truck and never touch the shocks except to check nitrogen level.

Again , unless you are racing your truck on a consistent basis you dont need race series shocks!
