I was all on my skids so I’m hesitant to drop down much. Most of that was being on 35s though
initially 600 18” I think. Sat too tall

Also, not true. You can adjust valving for slow speed control. I agree with the direction you’re going and think he’s confusing two topics.

This is the reason to SAS - you're not pulling 18-26" of travel in the front and the diff is always going to limit you

I’m no expert obviously. Whatever means stiffer shock at low speed haha

You could make the only oil passage a pin hole yes, but other than that you're not going to hold up the weight of a vehicle to roll over a stump while rock crawling.

Lots of effort for minimal gain just from the little amount I’ve looked into it. Maybe if you go balls deep and raise the engine to have any uptravel even then you’re still fitting a 14” coilover. The JD kit was definitely not the limiting factor on the trip. 35s were for sure. Just fine tuning now.

I never said you would but you can valve a shock to act differently between varying shaft speeds. It’s hard to cover all basis but you can cater accordingly to terrain.

Mathematically, force is related to dampening coefficient * velocity

a basic spring dampener model would be M*a + c*v + k*x = F, where m is mass, a is acceleration, c is dampening coefficient, v is velocity, k is spring rate, x is displacement, and F being an applied force. Truck is obviously a more complicated system, but when system is static, dampening doesn't add any force.

not anywhere near the level of knowledge of people in here by any means, but what about a rear swaybar to encourage front articulation? We tend to toss them out for more flex, but a rear sway bar can encourage front articulation. Something like a TK1 or Anti-rock that is designed to be flex a lot without breaking.

The axle articulates - it doesn't go up and down leaving the other side of the vehicle almost useless and independent (IFS) from what's happening on the other side - look at how Ultra4 IFS buggies have their lowers mounted way in the middle of the vehicle. There's almost no horizontal surface area limiting travel.
So you blame the front not stuffing on the rear staying where it should be?

Yes because the cab isn’t leveled out. Hard to explain in pictures, I watched my truck be driven and felt it driving. Rear is moving far to easily and the front isn’t being worked enough. Best I can describe it.

A sway bar was brought up and is definitely a consideration. Good thinking

I’m curious to start with what I have- the dual rate slider. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get what I need out of it, but it seems like I could stiffen things up by utilizing the heavier coil more?

Once that spring is extended you'll be pushing against it - it'll basically push your rear wheel back down (or frame up) with the frame as a reference point.

It sounds like you want your shocks to be active up front and in the rear.

Vibration control is a pretty advanced topic, and especially on a vehicle where you have multiple degrees of freedom (ways things can move ie up, down, nose dive, squat, roll) and almost infinite different loading conditions. Unless you're getting into the nitty gritty systems of differential equations, there is going to be some trial and error which is okay. I'd say you're on the right track by noticing things not working how you want and striving to learn about how to get it where you want

And I'm just thinking about if 16" 650 will be to stiff for my truck or if I should drop to 600#. I feel like Homer Simpson in this thread trying to pretend to follow along.

For what it’s worth, everyone I know that is in this debate and goes with the lighter coil is happy they did. Granted that’s like 3 people, but still.

Id rather use trial and error than my old Laplace transform table sheet. It’s smeared from tears of rage and disappointment anyway.
