I have some from my kit that I most likely won't be using once I finish my engine cage. They are cracked though, I have to grind them out and reweld them again.

It was easy and it was "easy". I talked to Jeff and each time I had to remind him who I was and what I needed. All the way up to picking them up (drove from Sacramento for the day to pick up) when I had to go thru the whole process of who and what. In the end I got an HD70'xl' which is an HD70 pack with an extra leaf. I ended up removing the extra leaf and I'm 100% happy. At least I have the leaf for sag later down the off-road.

Is there any advantage to Deaver packs over Alcan? They're both just progressive leaf packs right? Can't imagine Deaver does anything specially different to make a big difference. Leaf spring tech seems pretty darn simple.

I have some some dirt king ones that are similar to wicked creations but those mount downwards. The jd fab style mount upwards and you have to drill the hole bigger in coil buckets to let the shock go up a bit. 8FE25266-8816-4383-A6DF-9F698FCD9933.jpg
This is the one I have but I need a little more uptravel. The fox 8” are a bit longer than the king 8” but I wanted the dual adjusters.

This is the style I need the shock tabs are skinnier to let it slip through the coil bucket.

No I’m probably going to sell since it won’t work. Unless I can’t find that other mount then I’ll keep and move my bump stop a bit.

    Yes
you can buy tintable bed liner and have an auto paint shop whip up color matched tint
That was probably National from El Cajon which after they shut down their own local manufacturing were just buying springs from Dallas Spring

For the guys with linked rear ends, how are you guys setting up your driveshaft angles? The truck I have was setup as pinion angled dead at rear half of shaft which fits some reading I’ve done in various forums. I’m assuming so driveshaft also doesn’t bind at droop.

I just swapped out the totally btfo OEM carrier bearing for a ranger Spicer bearing and spacing this thing has been a pain in the ass to get it at the right height. Initially placed it roughly same height as OEM setup with significant vibes. Figured maybe the stock bearing rubber was so soft and compliant that maybe it minimized what should’ve been vibes. Spaced new bearing further up toward body to now bring the angle of the rear shaft about 1* higher than pinion angle. Also shortened 3rd link a few turns to also rotate rear end forward a hair or roughly 1/2 a degree.

Get some acceleration vibes around 65-70mph mark now. Going to try a shorter set of spacers maybe bring the rear shaft up another 1/2 degree. Though my understanding is under acceleration, a linked end shouldn’t change pinion angle that much.

Pic shows longer spacers I’ve since swapped out.

It’s my understanding if the upper links are around 75% the length of the lowers then the pinion angle will stay about the same throughout the range of travel. This would give the best on road manners since geometry will stay pretty consistent over bumps at speed. If the uppers and lowers are the same length, the pinion will want to stay pointed at the tcase (rotate upward during droop). This keeps the driveshaft happier in droop since the ujoint isn’t at such an extreme angle.

Solid mounted carrier bearings and heims aren’t going to be forgiving at all. Any small vibration will be amplified. Leaf packs (or Johnny joints/poly) and rubber carriers like to soak up all kinds of nasty shit. I don’t know if that carrier bearing is solid mounted, but maybe start by throwing the factory one back in.

I had the best results on the road by leveling the two piece (by lowering the carrier bearing) to where it was almost like a one piece and then matching the pinion to the tcase output. My rear uppers were about 75% of the lowers at that time. Since it won’t see the road or high speeds any longer, I’ve made both the front and rear uppers and lowers much closer in length and pointed straight at the tcase.

shit wish I could remember how I set mine, I wanna say I asked my driveline shop what ideal was at ride height based upon what my center joints angle was and just did what they said, very little if any vibrations in mine. And I’m running the factory carrier bearing right now as well. Eventually wanna do a Mitch made and a cardan joint when I go to a slip yoke eliminator on my t case.

Id have to go back and measure length to be sure but the upper and lower links aren’t too much different just eyeballing.

The truck otherwise is solid, can’t complain much about the solid motor/trans mounts and heims setup. This has really just been a user generated vibe issue. The factory carrier bearing was essentially dead, chirping like a rabid parakeet and needed replacing, so I figured I’d put in something different, potentially of higher longevity. Which this spicer XC bearing is indeed rubber isolated it’s just the actual mounting to the stock mounts was spaced down with solid spacers to correct the angles back to where they were with the OEM “donut” carrier bearing.

Id like to put in a mitchmade setup. I saw in some of the Instagram comments he was redesigning one specifically for 4x4s due to some sort of mild difference I guess.

I read some old ass stuff on 4crawler and a few threads on pirate and race dezert, and some driveline threads on here but it seemed like what @Dayman Karate said either turn the driveshaft into essentially a 1 piece with spacing the CB down and making pinion parallel to trans or slightly lower angle, or option 2 basically have first u joint similar to second and then point pinion in line with rear driveshaft. Mine was set up like the latter based on my angle measurements.

I think what I plan to do next is have another set of spacers machined and shoot for a shorter spacer and then shim it until it’s optimized. Maybe call it good and leave well enough alone. It’s been fun tinkering on this truck.

yeah I didn’t space my carrier at all, it’s on the factory mount. If you have 0 driveline angle it’s actually worse for your cv’s from what all the driveline guys said.

Roll the pinion down 2 degrees and go drive it. U joints don’t always like being in identical planes. You can also try flipping the drive shaft around in addition to spinning it 180 degrees in the yokes. Make one change at a time and go drive it.
