Yes they are. I would need a different bell housing. Probably from the T4R or GX. I gotta look into the 4th Gen T4R’s drive train to see how it was setup. That’s why I was asking if anyone knew if a750fs were pinned any different. I’ll most likely use a complete donor vehicle, but we’ll see what I can find. Been reading as much as I can on some of the other forums. It seems doable. I almost bought a tacoma forever ago that was AWD swapped with the 4.7L.

If it were me I’d just buy the UZ and trans together with harness and PCM. Going to save an unreal amount of headache. Wouldn’t even be thinking of this unnecessary stuff right now.

Yeah so if I were buying them together, would that be the system out of the Tundra, GX, or T4R for the 4.7? Kinda the whole point of the discussion.

Does it matter? You'd end up having to get a new ecu or use one that matches the motor anyway. Might as well just get an engine/trans/ecu and then a manual valve body for whatever transmission you get for the performance and lack of wiring to figure out. just need a neutral safety switch at that point

Gotcha. To your point, I gotta look into each individually. From my research so far, Toyota set the 4.7L 2UZ up differently in each model. I think the GX has full-time 4wd, but not sure about the T4R. Tundra is probably the most promising.

This is going to be my long-term project. Truck works great and the 4.0 1GR is fine for me now. Short term I'm going to play around with shock tuning and fix a few other things. Long-term, it's going to need a cage, and some more power to push it around. As much as I love the LS, I want to keep the powerplant Toyota. Gimme 5 years, I'll come up with something.:cookiemonster:

@Supra4x4 My 03' T4R V8 came w the full time electronically switched A750F and center diff lock. I believe all Limiteds and V8 4x4s were full time AWD A750F. But the V6 Limited A750 configuration might be different. Also, pretty sure there are a few early (03' - 04') V6 4th gens w the A340 4spd, so watch out for that.
    Also for reference:
I have since installed a manual tcase out of a 12' T4R. This or an auto trans equipped FJ tcase will work. I had my prop shafts lengthened/shortened when I swapped cases.
    The connector pins? I'm clueless.

honestly both toyotas i've driven with 2uz's failed to impress compared to the 1gr that was in my taco. my buddy had a 03 4runner and his new 22 4runner now is quicker by far... unless your gonna supercharge it i honestly don't see the benefit for the cost and weight addition.

The 2UZ factory exhaust is the problem. The Y pipe could be used as a soda straw. Thorley's Y and headers opened mine up a lot. 03' and 04' non-vvti was tuned down to begin with. Later years had vvti w 35 more hp and a little more torque.
The potential is there, but cannot even come close to the dollars per hp ratio of an LS.

Yeah if you’re not going to be able to smog it anymore then no reason putting a uz, unless it’s a 3uz then we’re talking :stirthepot:

The 3uz looks awesome. It uses a similar block to the 1uz, which is aluminum vs cast iron of the 2uz, bored out to 4.3L. Only issue is electronically sounds like a nightmare. Doesn’t look like Toyota ever put it in anything 4wd.

I've been eyeing the other UR, the 4.6 as a swap for my 80 series

It makes swaps on these newer engines way easier even though it seems like it would be harder. Because now you don't have to worry about reusing a body control module or fighting persistent codes from missing components. Plus you don't have to deal with the immobilizer bullshit. And it allows you to completely gut all the emissions nonsense if you want to. Bit of a steep cost but it lets you bypass a whole bunch of little nitpicky costs along the way and a whole bunch of troubleshooting.

@Torspd knows all about that world.

I turboed my 5vz rather than an engine swap and it certainly fulfills the fun quota with plenty to spare.
