This has been my personal experience

    can’t fit 4 seats
    Steering compromised running bigger tires
    Losing AC
    Head touching the roof
Engine bay too small for EVERYTHING you’d WANT vs need

I have tons of complaints with my current build and I’ve been leaning towards a tundra or a Silverado cab instead

Biggest frustration would be getting rid of all the Toyota cosmetic items I have like headlights taillights, hood, cab, doors, speakers ect ect

Yeah, these trucks are great for a guy that wants nothing more than a nice truck to mess with on the weekend and daily drive. Outside of that, if you plan to get super serious. They simply aren’t worth it.

I can’t even begin to find the fun in pushing an engine back 12”+ in the cab of a Tacoma. No leg room, you’re gonna cook your feet off and packaging is literally going to be a gigantic nightmare.

Even if you wanted to keep it narrow, you could literally still do that with a full size cab while still having gobs of travel assuming you center mount. Difference is how much larger the chassis will be and how much more it will allow.

The width at the wheels is one thing, but the width at the cab is the main problem. My tacoma doors are constantly leaned into trees in tight off camber trails, or tight corners. a full width cab literally could not go through the same spot without cutting the tree down. Same reason ultra4 guys run wide track width, but narrow body. I have a tundra, and it's all I drive currently while the tacoma is down (other than our 1g sas 4runner for proper crawling) but I can't go half the places I could go with my tacoma. And it's not for lack of trying.

My tundra is the shortest option and it's wheelbase is 145.7", so it's definetly a lot longer than the tacoma

and I want to be clear, I honestly don't know why desert guys even bother with Tacomas. I would 100% be building a tundra if all I did was desert. it's just tight forest trails, it's too much of a squeeze for the wide trucks.

+1. I'm in @WormSquirts shoes. Out here in Tahoe there's no actual desert but plenty of whooped out dirt in the middle of tight trails or between segments rock crawling. The newer trend of 2.25" kits means that I'm just barely wider than stock so I can still hit all of the same trails but when it comes to going fast in the dirt, I can still get after it a 'lil bit better. If I was in a full size or a 4" kit, I don't think I'd even fit in the Barret Lake gate.

If I was only trying to go fast in the desert or in open dirt I would probably be in a full size. If I only wanted to crawl the rocks I'd probably be in a Jeep.

And if you only want to suffer trying to make a mediocre platform do something it was never intended to do, you'd be in a Tacoma!

Wife’s 4runner is my favorite sleeper. Still needs a little bit of shock tuning and if k can figure out more rear uptravel, but freaking amazing for looking stock from the exterior.

Yep from CNG smog exempt rangers and F150s to pre-smog and diesel smog exempt trucks, guys scrap everything minus the cab sheet metal and the doors and pretty much could put a rocket engine in there and DMV won't care.

100% It's like the knowledge of the benefits of a full size truck is always one step behind major financial decisions to make the Tacoma into a full size Chevy... to be open minded, we all do this in some way. For me I should have went to a junkyard and got an engine instead of rebuilding one only to realize it’s not the way to go

Sorry, I missed this and saw it skimming back through.

In my opinion there isn’t a set percentage of anti squat to shoot for as every truck varies wildly. Every demand varies wildly as well. It all comes down to your F/R weight ratio and needs.

Neither of you are wrong here BUT you both sound like guys that bought front row tickets at a soccer game just to turn around and shout at everyone how much better football is.
Obviously a bigger cab will have more room ...aaaannnnnd 90% of the people here are here because they don't have/want/need a bigger cab for one reason or another, so why preach to us

with a solid axle, squat is only bad because the power it takes to make the truck squat as everything binds up when getting on the gas, is power that gets absorbed by the suspension and doesn't make it to the ground. And because it affects the location of the shock in it's travel while you're on the gas (with traction). Basically just decide how much power you want to lose when you're really getting on the gas, and how much uptravel you want left when on the gas

Keep in mind the charge in your shocks keeps the piston in suspension at whatever psi you run X area of the piston so you already have that much force fighting squat and dive on all four corners

When I brought it up it actually became a problem as the build developed

    I wanted my 4 seats
I have 4 seats for the truck currently
But as soon as we decided shocks in the cab
4 seats went out the window
And then soon after came the conversation of steering issues and AC fitment
And then the most recent was issues with fire suppression systems

Truck basically just ran out of room to hide it

I’m sorry, but this is in no way an accurate statement on squat/anti squat.
