The fluid looked good when I drained it, I don’t really want to have to replace it. The thermostat only ever opened one and it was right after it blew up.

smashed this, broke that, covered it up with tape and paint
Just hook the water hose up and run it for a while

then flush it with rubbing alcohol and the air compressor

    That’s a pretty good idea.

Same procedure when you blow your AC compressor

make sure you don’t have any internal filters

Chevy puts filters inside of the radiator and trans cooler
And if you don’t replace them
The whole system will clog again and boom goes the dynamite

You can try to flush them, but it’s an awful chance with a 6k$ trans. And my bet is maximum will tell you to pound rocks if you can’t prove the trans cooler was replaced and something happens. This is the case with all built transmissions in my experience.

    I agree
    100
    But
    If you gon be cheap
    There is the way

I always replace the cooler when doing trans work

mine is actually getting rebuilt right now with a Circle D TQC and a billet planet

Ain’t no time to be cheap with a 6k$ trans lol. But I agree there are ways. Just not ways I would personally use.

I’ve done the water and alcohol method before
    And it did work successfully
    But
    Like you mentioned
Circle D will tell you to get F’d if you don’t have a invoice showing the new cooler

so I have had to do it ever since

    but
There are times it’s good info

Just asked Chris at maximum and he said they just clean the coolers. As long as my converter is fine I don’t have anything to worry about.

Impressive. Literally never heard a trans company say something like that.

I mean if I flush it out till it runs clear I don’t see a problem. Besides, don’t automatics just generate clutch dust and shit in the fluid? The minuscule amount that might be leftover in the cooler after cleaning I don’t think would be an issue

I would think that would just depend on the failure issue. Diesel is also a great cleaner, we use it to clean aluminum shavings out of welded on skin coolers in boats to keep from running shavings thru 5k+ dollar hydraulic pumps.

Was sooooo close to having one door done… than my tig torch lead decided to die on me… but only have a few filler plates left to do and one sides done!

    makes sense.

i also would have happily accepted "because racecar" but i assumed there was a legit reason.
