Strap it so it doesn’t bind.

I’ve never had to lower a truck off the rack to set a limit strap

Then you’ve never set them right because you should always have to put weight on the tires to remove or attach a strap.

Definitely not set right if you can let it go to full droop and remove the strap… The entire purpose of the strap is to take up travel so the shocks can’t top out and to remove any bind from the steering, suspension or CV’s.

Thanks for the info. Was just curious because this trucks been on the rack for two weeks because of wicked creations and other jobs. Lca bushing was tweaked and the spacers for the uniball were machined wrong along with a bad uniball on the other lower.

So did you come here just to put blame on them or? Because to me, it sounds like you’re a novice installer. And I’m not even trying to be a dick about it.

No. Im just checking because of the issue with alot of fitment. I’ve never had an issue putting a strap in and ive never had to put the weight on the truck. Maybe a little but the rest was adjusted later. I’ve fixed a Marlin kit. I’ve done a jd kit and total chaos.

I wanted to get opinions from guys who actually have long travel and may have done more than me. And all the others never went into bind with the way I’ve set them before so that’s why I asked.

It’s been a waiting game because the lower control arm wasn’t welded correctly and it was tweaked. A Uni ball was bad Both upper Uni ball spacers were machined incorrectly so the amount of travel was limited by the spacer. All things they have sent replacements for. You missed the part about other jobs also.

Correct. That’s how I’ve set them before. Able to get 3-4 turns on the nut then put weight on the truck and tighten up from there. Jack truck up spin the tire to ensure it’s out of bind. Then go up a little more on the strap for stretch. Then tell the customer to recheck it after some runs and adjust as needed.

Total Chaos mid-travel front. JD Fab SUA rear.
Sole purpose of the limit strap is in its name. To limit the suspension from bottoming out on the shocks or the next point that causes a bind (control arms, cv axles, etc). Would be pointless to have a loosey goosey limit strap when the suspension is completely drooped out. Usually a 1/2”-1” is a rule of thumb to allow the strap to stretch over time.

Burning in some of the final pieces of the swingset!

4130 is straight fun to burn.

Starting to think I’m gonna be a TIG only shop.

Must be - sounds unusable for desert setups. Idk why you’d need a 16 if JD SUA gets 19 (?) with a 14 under the bed and all other spring unders go 16-18 in the bed. Got any posts with that setup?

JD gets nowhere near 19 with a 14. Just sayin. I’m really sick of the inflated numbers game.

@snowsk8air2 was able to eak out what 14" or close to with my 12" shocks. Even re using the Archive towers, but we did have to bump it short.
Just need to find a way into some 16" and punch the bed.
