Even if they were expensive the level of support alone makes them worth while. I wonder what percentage of race trucks are LS or at minimum GM based power plants? I bet it’s a very large majority.

I always try to look at what race teams are doing for an idea of what the best route is. Just like a large majority bailed from trophy truck racks in favor of swingsets. Always a rhyme or reason for them. And cost usually isn’t much of a factor.

At the end of the day. These aren’t race trucks. But our trucks development and progression largely follows the race scene as a whole.

I mean you can grab a LS/LQ out of a junkyard for super cheap , go thru it, modifiy it and still be cheap. That alone suggest powerplant grafting into Trucks.

100%. You could LS swap a Tacoma for quite literally 2-3k using all junkyard stuff. Which is why the thought of developing a true swap kit intrigues me.

I may vastly underestimate trans work prices but an a340e with an aw4 or a340f tail shaft swapped in works. @TacomaDad18 has one in his third gen

“To physically connect your A340E to your 1UZ, you'll need the input planetary and shaft assembly, trans oil pump, bellhousing, and torque converter.”

Sounds like buying 2 transmissions to make one and a whole lot of messing around for an engine that doesn’t make great power unless you drop 10k+ into a full build.

Anything is doable. But not everything is practical.

I was so convinced staying Toyota was the right thing. But I couldn’t make it practical no matter which way I cut it.

there really is no way to make a nice bolt in mount with where the ls mounts are in relation to the 1gr mounts. Honestly the biggest issues I saw were oil pan clearance issues and than exhaust routing with the steering in the way if you wanted to try and keep the engine somewhat centered.

I’ve got a few ideas for bolt in mounts already. But it’s going to be a while before I get to this project. Pan will simply take me modifying one and having it molded for casting. Exhaust is still up in the air as I need to see things with my eyes before spitting ideas.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Been a bit since we got out in the woods. Since Hammers really.

Identified a few things I wanted to improve after our KotH trip.

    Lowered the lower shock mounts.
    20240420_151024.jpg

Lowered the bump pads. And added a 5th leaf back in to the pack (63s).

    20240421_140709.jpg 20240421_171243.jpg

Also finished the rear limit straps.

Changes got me to 5.5 up travel, 8.5 down travel. I think I like that spot.

The shot in the dark I had taken on initial set up was only about an inch off.

Added some hood latches, cause the hood tried to pop up on me 3 times on the way to Hammers. Can't have that shit.

    20240505_193736.jpg

Did a little project to take some weight off the back, move the spare in closer and get it up out of the way.

Got to check things out and hang out in the woods for a bit... much needed.

Maybe that is for an a340e out of a 4runner or tacoma?

the a340e came from factory behind the 1uz in ls400 and sc400.

still agree there are better options for you after all the wiring bullshit dealing with that other one.

I’m not sure. All I know is things start getting hairy with these Lexus motors and attempting to retain 4wd. Very limited options for a stout trans. That was the single biggest turn off for me. Now if I could ever find the right X-runner….. Now we’re talking a different ball game and 100% a 2UR

The 2UR in my IS500 sounds beautiful. Just opened it up with a full exhaust this week. This would be a badass swap, but very, very expensive. Probably will need a Motec to run it so it’s happy.

Should be able to run it off any higher end ecu, haltech, motec and whatnot that supports direct injection… I just know there’s not a ton of tuners who wanna touch direct injection…I guess it’s a pita from everything I’ve read. That and making it fit would be a nightmare with DOHC…

Nvm after digging looks like motec might be your only option with direct Injection…. Not to bad at $5500 for the ecu…

One of the best sounding engines ever made imo. But the price tag is definitely big!

I am putting on my kit next weekend and the closets alignment shop is a firestone. the closest offroad shop is about 50 miles. I need to get some numbers for caster/camber so I can give it to them so I can at least get it to the offroad shop to get it done correctly. without ruining my tires on the way lol

    +3.5 Total Chaos LT kit

    anything helps

You should be fine for 50 miles. I’ll drive home from the desert with jacked up alignment further than that.

I also got my truck aligned by Firestone with their lifetime alignment for the last 10 years with LT.

I tell them to get as close to 0° camber and toe, and not mind the caster being as high as it needs to be. My numbers are typically just barely negative camber, 0° toe, and around 5-7° caster.

Unfortunately you have to pay the motec tax, you'd need a harness, custom firmware developed, figure out how to control the transmission, maybe extra sensors, and then EASILY $1000-2000 for tuning.

Motec is local to me, one of my best friends shop uses solely Motecs on their shop builds, and another two friends are some of the highest level motec tuners (they make BANK). My next real race car will have a Motec in it, but I'm not sure I could justify it to a lot of people. Haltech is probably a better option for most.
