Due to all the R&D, breakage, repairs, etc., when all is said and done it's six figures not including the tow vehicle. Done over again, I'd buy a used 2-seater Class 12.

There's a great sense of satisfaction in creating a vehicle from scratch, but for an individual that's not a fabricator it's just not cost effective. It takes deeper pockets than I have. Hell, teams can't even finish with Toyota corporate backing. It's a shame that the money keeps the dream out of the hands of the majority of enthusiasts.

Their rear end blew up last year, and based on comments I've read online I believe they were hearing noise coming from it again before this race. Could have been another 8" implosion.

I've got a fabricated 9" going in this year because of all the rear end issues on these trucks.

Stock Mini requires the stock fenders remain on the vehicle, and I'm sure corporate wanted that truck to look as stock as possible for promotional purposes.

The team is experienced, and I'd bet they had a plan to run just faster than the slowest they needed to just to make sure they finished. Sponsors don't like to see "DNF" next to their vehicle's number and they were probably doing what they could to keep the truck intact for the duration of the race.

Race prep, travel, entry fees, etc. cost me over $10k per race. I'd need a substantial group of very generous folks pitching in to make it a possibility this year. :p

I've got a pre-dented diesel Ford. This one could go either way.

I dunno, they must have fucked up that rear end somehow by trying to make it better, either gearing it too high, or running synthetic when they shoulda been running regular gear oil.

Didn't the same thing happen to Tyler in the Mayhem truck at last year's 1000? I know a lot of guys on the forums have had their 8" rears blow. (that's not as dirty as it sounds)

I've only heard horror stories of running synthetic lubricants in the differentials, enough that I threw away my Royal Purple diff oil and bought $5 autozone oil instead.

Thats the plan. Im going to go across the two front mounts, then two going back to the trans brace next to the rear mounts. Tie it all together and make a good skid at the same time

    Nice!!

I've already talked to my guy about getting a group buy going for the trick tabs he made for my truck, but that won't be until he's moved his waterjet to the new shop and has all the necessary hookups in place.
