i always said it would take a lot to make the 2nd gens race trucks!

even the red trucks frame is near toasted , but it has lasted longer than others . we did the v2r a few years ago when it was like 8-900 miles and finished well. we finished 2nd in points with snore last year in the 7200 class. you wont run with the front of the pack , but we proved a leafspring truck can give linked trucks a run for their money and its starting to make me eat my words

it will take some time and learning from past mistakes to make them competitive. but the truck can be competitive and last with the right components and drivers. the problem is most overdrive the truck and few know how to hold them together.

im building a new truck with weight and frame longevity in mind . ive learned most the root problems of the 2nd gens and how to remedy them . so with lessons learned , im hoping this will be a very competitive leafsprung truck that will last without major component issues for years to come.

the lbr truck reused old ubolts when they swapped out axles the night before. they didnt use a torque wrench to tighten them and must have loosened up and lost them on the track somewhere on race day with no spares! then proceeded to shear the center pin holding the leafpack together scattering the leafs across the desert. rookie mistake and would have finished if they had spare u-bolts.

I called total chaos and spoke to this lady who sounded like she really knew what she was talking about. She said the bolt I need is the factory toyota OEM bolt which is what they use in their trucks. She said you buy the OEM bolt (luckily I ordered them yesterday and picked em up this morning) and cut it to length which is 30mm. I had actually cut it about 2 hours prior to talking to them on the phone. She said I was the first to hear of that bolt breaking and said it probably broke because it was loose, which someone mentioned yesterday.

Anyways, I am back in business and truck is running awesome once again...I just have to tighten up my limit straps a bit..really stretched em out sitting over night

That's such a freaking shame! It's so often those little things that bite teams and make race prep such a lucrative business for people that are really good at it. Hell, TSA's rollover could have been avoided by catching and replacing a worn uniball.

Thanks for the update, and I can't wait to see your take on a Gen 2 race truck!

Yeah a 2JZ swap would be nice as long as you plan on not driving it on the street anymore.

yep, it was nicole! I think she knows more about suspension than I do :p

it was scary leaving my truck overnight in our parking lot. We aren't in a bad location but right across from us is a company with a ton of skater kids and who knows what they coulda done. I was at least smart about and removed all the polls from the jacks..ran it around town a bunch and no problems so far. Only thing I need to do is lock tight those bolts with that blue, not the red

Its not too bad. I use red on all suspension parts. I thought you were saying you had used red before and are going to switch to blue

same here, blue is useless IMO. I always use red locktight on the threads and antiseize on the shaft.

I would only use blue on tiny bolts that would strip if you use red. Things like set screws or anything under a 10mm head
