Engage charged me less than $500 for install when I bought their kit, but that was a while ago...

Call Tim at DMZ Fabrication and Race Prep in Norco, CA. There is more to it than just slapping the parts on. The brand, type and number of shocks you use will also affect your cost and ultimate performance of the vehicle substantially.

    Good luck,

I had my Tacoma done by Tim at DMZ last year because Hassim was full of promises and seemed overly optimistic about his skills. He kept promising he could get 16" of travel out of the Tacoma 4x4 front end with his special axles and universal joints. Unfortunately they kept breaking. I'm just curious if he ever solved the problem. That's all. My truck that Tim at DMZ built exceeded all my expectations and is completely reliable.

    Regareds,

Tim is an amazing fabricator, but remember you are running a TC front end, not a DMZ front end.

Tacoma with some stuff melted to it
Or learn how to weld and install some stuff yourself and save quite a bit of $$$. I did my complete install myself with spindle gussets and alignment cam gussets. Took me about a day or so with one friends help. Ill be doing the UCA gussets soon myself soon too. Now I dont have 4wd but there are plenty of writeups on how to get the axles swapped too

If your afraid to get your hands dirty expect to pay big bucks for someone to do it for you

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing and there's nothing better then getting your hands dirty, I was talking with my father about doing a self instal because he is pretty damn good at welding but I am def. gonna give some of the places a call to get the full how to on everything before i go wandering around in the unknown. And i still got about 8 months till i move back to Cali so I'm gonna research till then so I can meet some of these shops in person so expect a lot of questions from me guys and thanks again! :D

Claims may have been updated by manufacturers since I originally posted that information. I know the CV binding is an issue as the numbers go beyond 13".

does anyone know the options for the extended cv axles for a 96 tacoma if i do the TC long travel kit? if there's a thread on this already, im sorry

it just seems that paying them 900 dollars for axles is unneccesary...

what is involved with swapping the short shafts with longer ones?

Bumping the thread for you in the hopes of some Gen 1 guys jumping in with information.

I *think* the Tundra axles can be used on the Gen 1 LT kits but would like to have someone with first-hand knowledge confirm.

caged, camburg long travel, 50t leafpack (soon to be installed) light rack over cab, 5pt harnesses etc
if you get tundra first generation axels they will work with the tc long travel kit on the 96 tacoma!

thats what im doing but with camburg (we get 10% off)

yes i've been debating TC and Camburg too, and with all the research havent seen to much of a difference, what i've been reading people say its more important to get a good shock and have it valved correctly, am i right? Because 10%off a already less expensive (and beefier looking) kit is definitely my style...

Stock Tundra Axle shafts work on the TC and Camburg kits. Thats what I am running on my truck. The reason why TC sells them for more is one they are 4130 shafts (If you break a normal one you have big issues) and they come ready to pop right in. The thing that sucks about building a set is that the Tundra CV joint isn't the same as a Tacoma one. You have to use Tacoma Joints and a Tundra shaft. I have been wanting to rebuild my CVs on my truck but I haven't really found a auto parts store yet that sells just the Joints for a taco. They normally only come in built half shafts which is a pain to take apart and messy for only needing just the joints.

If anyone knows a place that sells just the inner and out joints let me know because I want a set. I can put them together I just don't want have to buy full half shafts and take them apart if I don't need to.
