Long Travel information.

Stock Tundra Axle shafts work on the TC and Camburg kits. Thats what I am running on my truck. The reason why TC sells them for more is one they are 4130 shafts (If you break a normal one you have big issues) and they come ready to pop right in. The thing that sucks about building a set is that the Tundra CV joint isn't the same as a Tacoma one. You have to use Tacoma Joints and a Tundra shaft. I have been wanting to rebuild my CVs on my truck but I haven't really found a auto parts store yet that sells just the Joints for a taco. They normally only come in built half shafts which is a pain to take apart and messy for only needing just the joints.

If anyone knows a place that sells just the inner and out joints let me know because I want a set. I can put them together I just don't want have to buy full half shafts and take them apart if I don't need to.

Yup, I can see that. Its sticky and gets on everything. If I end up doing mine I'll most likely ask if I can do it at sdhq because they have a parts washer and can help if i have any questions.

I emailed Total Chaos about valving for their 1st gen tacoma kit. Thought I'd share the baseline info they got from King incase anyone was wondering.

 

I have a few questions for all of you Taco LT gurus out there:

-What size tires can I fit on my taco with the AP LT kit??? 35's???

-I've also read about regearing to atleast 4.56 with 35's, Necessary???

-Does/will the AP Front Bumper make a difference when it comes to tire rubbing, if i go with 35's???

I have read and seen a lot of peeps running 35's, but then when I go to AP's website it recommends 285/70/R17's. I love the way they look with 35's, 33's being my second choice. My only concern is having to do any choping/grinding of any other parts to prevent unwanted rubbing. I dont really want to switch out the fenders, and I do plan on getting the AP front bumper.

My goal/wish list (minimum): AP LT Kit w/ Fox shocks(Front), AP Expedition 3" Leaf Kit w/ Fox shocks (Rear), BFG 35's, and the infamous AP Front Bumper.

 

I am pretty sure you would need to do some major trimming to run 35's and be able to full turn and stuff without rub

hey guys i wanted to ask you guys if uniballs are a good idea cuz i have a fab shob nearby that sells some that fit my 1st gen 5 lug is it recommendable for a dd? how long do they last? any advice would be appreciated

I dont have any personal experience with the kit but i do know that their track width is not as big as TC's 3.5" perside. So that might play into fitting 35's.

In order to correctly fit 35's without rubbing youre gonna have to cut the bodymounts and plate them.

As for the gearing I suggest 4.56 for 35's. One misconception i had was that i was gonna gain mpg after i regeared.WRONG. the tires are just too damn heavy that even after a regear you still suffer in that category. My buddy has 4.88's and is hitting 3-3.5k going 70mph. So he stays away from the freeways.

another option you may consider is getting 295/70/17 tires, which comes out to 34" i believe. A little more narrow but you get the height for ground clearance. Which is a bonus when cruising a rutted out race course.

 

Sweet, Ill keep all that in mind. i appreciate your help bro. Think I might just go with 33's at first and a 3" suspension lift until I get cleared by the wallet to make the LT kit purchase.

 

Would ICON extended travel coilovers work with allpro's LT kit?

They would work with the coil over adapter (spacer).

I ran them for a few months while I saved up the money to put the correct coil overs in.

I'd sell you my spacers at a good discount if you want. They're the originals (first ones AP made).

 

Even with 33's you're going to need the fiberglass fenders if you plan on actually using the LT kit.

Don't go LT if a little grinding/trimming bothers you.

 

You may want to pull your axles apart and check them. I ran th AP spacers with my ext travel Donahoes before switching to the Fox shocks.

About 2 month ago I broke an axle. Turns out the Spacer+coilover combo was overextending the inner joint and worn three nice little stress rises into my axle shaft.



Needless to say I now know that I have one axle still in the truck that looks like this

 

is there a such thing as a street LT setup? i want to be capable of bouncing off a curb at 20-25 mph and drive away with no problems.
