Hey all, I’ve learned a lot through Tacoma world so I decided to create an account to try and find some people in a similar situation to me. I have a 21 long bed Tacoma (4x4) and looking into long travel. Curious if any others have built a long travel truck with the long bed and how it has done. Trying to decide if it’s worth building or if it would be better to turn around and get a short bed. I appreciate the feedback, thanks

Do you mean ACLB or DCLB? Short or long wheel base? I would think the wheel base would be more important than the bed length, but maybe only marginally so.

I agree it is the wheelbase that matters. Its a dual cab so wheelbase is pretty long at about 140”

I would think that longer wheel base may help in high speed stability.

Not that this is 100% applicable, but a tiny bit of research suggests the ultimate high speed desert racing trucks (trophy trucks) have a relatively short wheel base of about 120”-125”. That aligns with the short wheel bases of king of the mountains vehicles, dirt bikes, and SXS’s. Long wheel base is relegated to high speed hill climbers.

Despite that, I don’t think there are any suspension part incompatibilities with a DCLB.

Disclaimer: I do not want you to think that your Tacoma has any chance whatsoever of being anything approximating a trophy truck.

If you are always going in a straight line perhaps.

I’ve seen the ideal length to be about 120” and don’t expect my truck to be a trophy truck by any means (although that would be rad) but just trying to justify those 20 extra inches. I appreciate all the responses guys and idk if I quoted this message currently. New to this
