Did you read my post before you posted the 2uz idea?

also yes, turboing the 5vzfe is a great option. Can get to 350-near 400hp easy. without tearing into the motor and upgrading internals.

about 2k or just under with ECU and tranny. You'll need to get one with a 5 speed tranny to use the bell housing and clutch.

Or you can buy a clutch kit and just get the bell housing separate. But thats like a lot of money. Cheaper to just get the whole tranny and sell it to some guy looking for an r154 which is pretty damn easy.

Japan. They manufactured the 1 and 2JZ's into the 2000's IIRC. Get a post '96 and you can get one with VVT. Some lexus cars also had the 2JZ.

Don't get a non turbo engine; there are some internal build differences between the turbo and non turbo.

Pick yourself one of these while you are at it. Hope you have deep pockets:

Or just get a stroked long block:

You need deep pockets to play with a 2JZ. You and always stick with just the longer rods and crank and not have to worry about another few $grand$ on the boring and machine work. I think without the extra bore, you can get an extra .2 liters and its a lot more affordable (supra guys call it the poor mans stroker kit).

I'm just trying to be practical about this. The truck was down from Sept. of last year to early this year while I got the rear end together and it's never been down that long in it's life so I'm going to try and avoid that again. I'm not looking forward to pulling it all back apart for powder coat as it is. Plus the wife wants a bigger shop so she can park inside again so there's that to contend with. Not a lot of 5000 square foot garages with 2500 square foot houses for sale though lol.

You will still be running into the same problem with space though. There's not much room between the 5VZ headers and shock towers and the CX headers give even less room :notsure:

True..not a whole lot room either way..

The one center diff build i know still used the same mounting points for the LCA/UCAs.

If you wanted a V8 and centermount, you started with the wrong platform.

OP, by your user name, Im assuming SAS is totally out. I would talk to Paul (Ponethousand) about an LT kit. He's crawling with an LT kit and trails don't get much tighter than around here. Trees and rocks and threading the needle everywhere you go.

Yeah, but when you're 15, you don't really look 13 years into the future for your builds. A buggy is just too easy in the sense that I know it would work and maybe when I need 4 seats to lug around kids, I'll build one.

Sounds like we have similar dream trucks...

You can make over 350 to the wheels on the stock twins pretty easy, you wouldn't need to upgrade, good power and minimal lag.... Bolting a 2jz to the r150 will not last in a go fast truck, I can't speak to a truck used in the rocks.

My brother is a big supra guy, as of late he and I have been discussing a race truck built around a 2jz and getrag V-160 (manual 6spd). 2jz's with the auto tranny can be found all day for 2g's imported from Japan, 2jz's with the 6spd go for 8-9+g's...

I just wonder if a V-8 would provide the best low end torque that is needed for the rocks. I routinely light up all 4, but I don't need to necessarily blow the doors off the guy next to me with this build. I'm content with going slow, hence my other passion. Stockish Model T's lol.

Then the rear answer for you is simple.

    Gears

Diff gears and double t case.

That'll give you alllllll the torque in the world from a 2 cylinder lol
