I do very little offroad but i dont want to be held back in the situation presents itself. It will mostly be on-road use. I believe one has a 3.91 gear ratio but cant remember if its auto or manual

I have driven two new autos and a manual and i didnt hate the auto in one and the other truck fell on its face a few times around 1500 rpm. These werent long test drives and both auto trucks were brand new so maybe the transmission needed to learn?

Anything below 2000 is out of the powerband. Lots of guys here in the plain states can't get their auto trucks out of 4th at highway speed due to wind.

The mpg difference comes down to about the cost of 1 coffee a week. I'll pay that any day for a stick. 1000x Better imo

In the manual 70 is about 2400 in 6th. In the auto it's 3000 in 4th because it won't go into overdrive....

I recently traded in my 2016 Tacoma auto for a 2018 Tacoma manual. I have a FourWheelCamper(1000lbs) in the back most of the year. The manual is the way to go if you ask me.

Ok, one more question. Other than getting the newest year model available for resale, are there any reasons to get a 17 over an 18 since both are still available? The are pretty much the same price

18 has TSS, so you get that adaptive cruise control, which is nice if you do long distance travels.

I'm sure you'd be able to negotiate on price much more effectively on the 17... and tags/taxes should be lower too I'd imagine.

Yes! TSS on the 2018 is awesome. The lane departure works great.

Masterofnone, these are my thoughts too. Do they all come with lane departure? What exactly is that?

Toyota Safety Sense is new for 2018. Lane departure is just one of the features but it alerts you with a beep when you move out of the lane. If you put the turn signal on no beep will occur.

I was in the same dilemma. I got the manual and love it. If im goin easy on the gas pedal and stay below 65 I’ve been getting 21+mpg.

Looks like the dealer I use in Kansas City has about 20 2017s on the lot. All are marked down $2000 below MSRP. Rebates and discounts aren't listed for the 18s.
