My longest was about 3,200 miles through the top end of Australia. It was in my in my 2005 3.0L TD Hilux and it was just me and my dog. If anyone knows the top end of Australia knows how remote and amazing the wilderness can be out there.

The trip was between Atherton, QLD to Ngkurr, NT and back (3,200 miles round trip). Of the 3,200 miles, about 2,000 miles were dirt roads, everything from nicely graded stuff to loose sand where I needed 4H to creek crossings etc.

The trip was basically one big camping, fishing and 4x4 trip. Given my truck was a single cab, my dog and I camped under the stars and either rolled out my swag (camping bed) on the ground or sometimes on top of my flat tray as we near rivers that had crocs and I didn’t want to become a snack.

Certainly a trip to remember. I would love it Toyota America brought over the 3.0L turbo diesel engines in a Tacoma or better yet, the V8 Landcruiser.

Here’s a photo from one of the first couple of days of the trip and still near civilization. From here things got more remote but more exciting!

You're not joking about that being remote. A few years ago I flew from Texas to Brisbane, then to Cairns, where me and 3 other guys spent a month up in Cape York bowhunting boars and bulls. Never saw any other people, never even saw any airplanes. The top end is definitely the land that time forgot!

My wife is a flight attendant and I love to drive therefore travel dilemmas galore. But I have taken my 07 TRD Sport to Florida several times from Chicago. I love the feel of driving MY truck and being in control. Plus I have my pit baby Ellie with me. Here's to more travel by truck!!!!!

See you know! We took ours to the outer banks. It’s just nice having the freedom to drive to where you want and when you want. And the double cab makes it really nice with the dog. We have an Aussie that loves the back seat.

    5 months, 22k miles.

Slowly meandering from Denver to Alaska then down the Pacific Coast before cutting back to CO.

Not a bad trip at all.

Wow, that sounds great! I grew up in Cairns. As a kid we’d go up Cape York fishing and camping, certainly good times in my childhood. You trip sounds like an awesome adventure though!

A few yrs back my wife and I lived out of my taco for 3.5 months while visiting every state minus the obvious (Hawaii etc). Ended up being about 14k miles of go go go with not one issue.

It was. I loved every minute of it. The fellas I went with have invited me back, and I'd love to go but theres just no way it could top my first trip there. Maybe one day tho.

Then to St. Augustine Fl. Stayed at Anastasia state park. Beautiful camp ground. Got to do some fishing there.
After that headed to Ocala National Forest for the day. Such a cool forest.
And finally went to Fort Desoto for the last week of camping. Got to do some amazing fishing there caught tons of fish I’d never even seen before.
Was a great trip with the girlfriend. Got to see some awesome places. Didn’t have a single problem with my truck.

Currently planning a ~5,500 mile road trip from ATX -> Seattle in a couple of weeks. Going up the west coast after Arizona/NM. Route back will be a similar distance but down the eastern edge of the rockies, spending about a week dirtbagging around Colorado. Hopping between national/state parks and national forests the entire route. Not concerned about reliability at all, going to do an oil change and transmission drain and fill before I leave + rotate tires. Probably do an oil change and rotate the tires when I arrive as well. Avoiding anything heavier than a dirt road offroad wise because while I enjoy pushing the limits of locked 2wd, I enjoy it a lot more when I'm traveling with a friend with 4lo to pull me out when I push it past the limit.

Furthest continually I've done in a day is Austin -> Breckenridge and back a few times. Truck didn't blink, and with good tires the prerunner handled post-blizzard heavy snow conditions leaving like a champ. I'm glad I bought the v6 when I'm on the interstate.

We're right on the coast on 101 in extreme northern Calif, Eureka. Look me up if you need anything as you come through including a place to crash / shower / do laundry.
