About 1,000 miles/21 hours, I was attempting to make Sarasota, FL in one go but stopped for a motel due to fatigue and safety concerns.

This was years ago, I planned on driving my ‘98 single cab 5-speed rear wheel drive with a bench seat, but my dad made me take his 2nd gen

1378 miles. I've done the drive nonstop (aside from fuel and food) several times. Best time was 19 hours, worst was 23. Google estimates a little over 20, but doesn't account for stops.

After a few years, I found a few things that help make the trip go better.

    - It doesn't always work out, but I try to leave very early in the morning if possible. This seems easiest on my sleep schedule, and if I can get through Chicago before 5am it helps a lot.

    - I also start out with a travel mug full of hot coffee, but I don't drink any until I hit about 1/3 - 1/4 tank. Then I refill it when I get gas.

    - stopping after 10-12 hours for a sit down meal can help a ton with fatigue. Also, walking around a bit during fuel stops seems to help as well.

    - I don't force myself to drive straight through. If I start getting sleepy, I pull into the next rest area and take a nap. I'd say that I've napped along the way more times than I've driven straight through. Getting there a little sooner isn't worth falling asleep driving. I've actually planned around getting some sleep along the way the last few trips.

This definitely helps! I only have to stop when I need fuel, or when I need to use a restroom. I can almost always wait until I need fuel. My ex would sometimes need 2 bathroom breaks on the way to her parents' house, which was hardly 2 hours away. o_O

If you travel with kids, it's going to be even worse.

Edit: I should add that I only did this trip once in the Tacoma. A few times I drove a Scion tc, and I drove a 4Runner every year since 2019.

Also, 2 day record was almost 1600 miles, from Florida Keys to Milwaukee, WI. That was a haul!

Biggest trip for me was from Boulder, Colorado to Joshua Tree, CA. 14 hours, 973 miles. Likely won't do stuff like that again solo. I think 8-10 hours is my limit, just for safety. But god bless good podcasts and my tune lol.

I think you hold the record in this thread for most miles in a single shot.

That's why it's more difficult when traveling with others (male or female). Everyone is on a different bathroom schedule. All my exes pee a lot on road trips. Must be a female thing?

Solo is awesome. I also only stop for gas except I will use the restroom at all gas stops. I usually don't separate gas and restroom stops. It saves a lot of time. Unless I bring my own food, the only other stop is at drive-thrus. Then I will eat while driving...or I may just eat in the car at a parking spot at the restaurant.

Forgot to mention that my trip was 1186 miles, according to Google maps, from Junction, TX to Riverside, CA.

That takes some balls. I'd be way too paranoid to sleep outside of the vehicle at a rest stop or wayside. I'd love to leave the sleeping platform in for the ride, since sleeping in the front is uncomfortable AF. But, the current version requires removing the back seats. Maybe I need to build another version specifically for driving cross country.

Longest for me was roughly 1340mi a touch over 23hrs from central jersey to key largo Florida. Stopped for food and gas. Last time I'll do a drive like that with 34" tires. And fully armored. I averaged 13mpg. I'll rent a sedan before I do that drive again.

Several runs from Pennsylvania to Mississippi and then when I moved to Mississippi vice versa. We could make the 13 hour trip in a little over 12 hours.

When I moved back to PA from MS, it was one of the most miserable trips. I was driving a Penskee 16' van with a car hauler that had my Jetta on the back. That one was over 15 hours. Only almost died like 3 times!

I did a trip from the east coast to Montana this past spring, that was three ~12 hour driving days in a row each direction.

I think the longest day wound up being 14 hours in the truck because of traffic. It was about 2,500 miles each way so I believe each day of driving was around 700-800 miles give or take. Some days were longer, some were shorter.

I’d do it again in a heartbeat, I had a blast and the truck preformed flawlessly.

I also drove to Canada and back in October. That was a 13 hour drive each way. Both directions done in one day.

Dallas to Orange Beach, AL is the longest for me (660 miles), but it included my wife and 2 kids, so I think that effectively doubles the mileage.

I like the tips, my long drive was back in my early 20’s and I left too late, overdosed on caffeine, and had pretty poor restroom and fuel game. Now we just stop in North Carolina and go RI->FL in two days.

When we go it’s me, wife, dog. Almost always just stop for gas with one restroom break between for the wife sometimes. We hustle at the gas stops though! Like Sub 15 minutes for all three of us to go to the bathroom and fuel the truck and stretch our legs!

Cancelled this year due to saving $$ for first baby on the way and wife’s comfort traveling. Gonna be way different with a kid, might take 3 days to make the drive just so the days are shorter, of course we’ll be moving slower anyway.
