Yeah getting 16 mpg in my stock rig sucked for the road trip and it sucks every day. No car is really a good financial investment and I go back and forth on these trucks being so thirsty, but I think I take it for granted how reliable and useable it is, and I’ll be damned if I’m not going to drive something I like.

I respect your decision to rent something for the next big trip it’s probably a smart move, I might have to take a long trip after I finally get my lift installed and do tires myself before I’m there with ya in the 13mpg “let’s rent a car” club :burnrubber:

Federal Way Wa to Grand Junction Co. 1100 miles. Fully loaded. Best fuel mileage (18mpg) was the stretch between Burly Id and Salt Lake City. Took about 19 hours only because I stopped at Cabelas in Salt Lake to get ammo for prairie dogs.

I have seat jackers and seat covers. Still didn't enjoy the experience. :notsure:

    that's why.

    per descriptions:
seat jacker lifts the front for purpose of storage space

    spacers lift rear for comfort

    very different

I used seat jackers for the front and the smallest shims on the back. That combo was the best for me imo. It made a substantial improvement, but better vehicles are available for long distance road trips. If the Tacoma works for you great. I'm shopping for a replacement or possibly a 2nd daily driver.

I unfortunately hit a ridiculous amount of traffic that trip though. And 2 accidents that shut down 95 south bound that put us on surface streets. They way home was just as bad. I've driven to Florida probably 30 plus times. That was by far the worst drive I've experienced.

Probably around 800-900 miles when I was traveling across the i90 with my son on a summer road trip. Lots of long days eating up miles of hills after we got out of Badlands and Yellowstone.

Around 1150 miles in my 1994 SR5 from Truckee, CA to Ogallala, Nebraska in 2000 enroute to Pennsylvania for work.
Second longest was Truckee to Phoenix. +/- 780 miles. Again, in my 1994 and for work.

175 miles from Fresno back to Sacramento, after picking up new truck in Fresno.
Indicated mileage was 26.2 mpg at freeway speeds.
    Filling the tank confirmed it.

This 3.5l VVT-i is very fuel thrifty.
My 1991 22RE only gets 27 on the freeway, and it is a smaller engine in a much smaller truck.

So not sure if I should share this but you asked In one year I put on 140k. I often will drive for 30hours at a time without any breaks except gas and the occasional stretch (these taco seats are hard on the lower back) so I guess it depends at what speed because I did jasper to Edmonton last month and I didn't let go of the gas pedal top out at 193kph on a downhill average of 165-170.. . Ummm I meant this is all just a story, in theory I meant. I take no part in any illegal road activities. But average speed of 150 I will cover more kms than a day where I do 100.
And before any of you jump on me saying yea right I just would direct you to my IG where I often have it all on my stories everyday lol ... I just towed a 6x12 loaded with my truck loaded from Vancouver BC to Edmonton Alberta took me 24hours maybe a little more roads were bad so I was only doing 90-100

Woke up at 6am, mountain biked The Whole Enchilada which is about a 35mile shuttle ride with like 6kft of downhill.
Finished the ride and left Moab at 1pm in the afternoon and then got home around 1am. Google says it's 13 hours, I did it in 12 including 3 gas stops. About 15mpg

Ideal drive time per day is 8 hours. Once I get past 12 it's no good. And no good driving past dark.

Tag team driving, about 1600 miles from NW GA to NW CO for a deer hunt in 2010. My brother-in-law and I drove straight through in about 28 hours. We swapped out driving and sleeping. We only stopped once other than to eat, piss or buy gas. Just before sunup in Western Kansas we both reached a point where neither of us felt safe to continue driving. We pulled into a rest area, and both slept about an hour.

Coming back, we got a hotel room near Denver for about 5 hours then 1400 miles straight through to home.

Solo, just over 1040 miles from Grand Lake Nebraska to home in NW GA. My wife and granddaughter were with me, but no one else drove. Took me about 19 hours. We killed about an hour at the Cabelas in KC, but otherwise only stopped to get gas, piss or eat.

Cleveland to Vegas. A little over 2k miles one way. We had 4 people rotating every fill up. Passenger was always required to be awake, we were also in our early 20’s which helped lol

About 1650 miles in a little over 30 hours with no sleep. Began in Richfield, UT at 5AM and drove about 550 miles to Whittier, CA and then turned right around and drove 1100 miles home to Fort Collins, CO, arriving around noon the next day.

A few weeks ago I drove from Madison, WI the Prescott AZ, over 1700 miles. The first leg was to Keystone, CO, about 1,000 miles straight through in 16 hours.
I slept 4 hours then did the rest. Another 10 or so hours.
