Close to 20 hours. It was nuts. Wife and I started a cross country camping trip that morning. Wife works in healthcare. She gets a call 9.5 hours in that her hospital is locking down for Covid and all employees must return to the state. Turned around and drove all the way home. I drove the entire time. Lots of coffee was had lol. Ended up camping in our backyard to make the best of it. What a wild time.

I had a crazy 36-hour drive from Moab to Ny. Last year my truck was overheating every couple hundred miles. Plan was to get to Denver buy a new offroad and head home. Another dealer had one but would not sell it because I was not local. Nothing but troubles getting over the Rockies, but after 10 hours I arrived at the dealer. Then they hit me with the 10k mark up from MSRP. Ouch. Thanks, but No thanks. Now i am pissed and start out towards the high plains. I was like ok. I will just drive till it gets Dark. It was two years ago last Labor Day week during a heat wave. As the sun set and the temperatures dropped my truck started to lose less fluid and running normal temp. Now I am rolling and decide to make it to daylight and get past Chicago and Heavy traffic. I end up hitting Chi town and got into some brutal traffic. It's like 6 am I am beat tired but going about 2 mph. After an hour or so I am rolling again on the phone with a dealer in Buffalo Ny. No dice nothing but short beds. No access cabs. Then I overheat bigtime somewhere on 80. No biggie, add fluid wait. Now I am really getting nervous about breaking down or blowing the engine. No new ones available on the East coast. Now it is noon and I heading to the Adirondacks about 7 hours away. More specific The Texas Roadhouse in Utica which is about 4 hours from my house. Around 7pm I arrived and ordered a Steak for myself and one for my dog. Knowing worst case scenario is me having my worker grabbing a flatbed and picking me up. I slept around 40 minutes at the Roadhouse and decided to go right through the heart of the mountains on Rte 8. I would not recommend this road at night. Man was it dark with zero cars. Perfect time for DD pro fogs and a nice easy pace to the NY interstate. After 4 hours I made it. Honestly the last stretch was easy it is the 4 am to 6 am that was the worst. How did I do it? Setting goals, listening to vin wiki cannonball stories. stopping every 120 miles with 10 minute break in store and 10 minute outside store for the dog. Why did I it? It just kind of happened. To stay awake Peanuts, coffee, and tabbaco.

I don’t really use my Tacoma for long distance. For long distance driving I used my 99 528i. Super comfortable, quick not fast. The longest drive I’ve done was from Portland, Oregon to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I kinda miss that car.

I drove to Pasadena and back from the East Bay Area in one day because I had to drop off some baby furniture for my daughter and I had to be at work the next day.

I drive from Dallas, TX to a bit south of Richmond, VA once or twice a year. I've done it in various vehicles (Tacoma, 2 Miatas, and probably others).

It's 1,325 miles one way. Did it in June and then again in December last year. Longest time was just under 21 hours. Shortest was just under 19.

I think carrying these critters helped getting it under 19 hours - stop for gas and food (at the same time) and on the road as fast as possible.

10.5 hours while towing an overloaded trailer. Was interesting drive to say the least. ~500 miles through the mountain passes.

Found the seat to be comfortable, zero complaints.

I drove 450 miles to pick up my taco and back the next day through beautiful country (Tahoe to Eastern Oregon - I took a different route on the Return)...
BUT I'd rather take it slow when going places these days...

If I am rushing somewhere with lots of driving, I'll rent an EV - It is Faster, and much more efficient...

I do have a few stories about endless drives to get places in a rush... Both relay driving and alone. Moving around the country, Seattle to San Diego, NY to LA, SoCal to Colorado for skiing, a couple of cross country (US) trips, down Baja to cabo for cabo things...

I did San Diego to Cabo in 13 hours straight a Looong time ago (including waiting for a gas station to open at 6am). I am going down to baja soon - this time a similar distance (with more off road - this time fully intentional!) will take me some 5 days.
And I am not going to Cabo!

    I Can't wait!

I don't do the endless drives anymore.

I like to travel places where I can see cool things... (even if that thing is lots of nothing!). A good travel day with kids is 4hr driving - tops. It gives you time to enjoy sights, stop and have good meals, and have a relaxed time while you wind down. Perfect if you are camping in the bush. You have to have a good dinner and have time to chat about the day as the sun sets...

We drove to Sedona with the boys and another family last year. We split it into two legs... These days I find that 4 hours drive is about right for me too. I could drive longer, but as I mentioned - I WANT so see where I'm traveling... See the sights, get to a hotel - or even better; set-up camp, enjoy a fire, and go to bed early, ahead of an early start...

I've also done a good amount of touring in interesting parts of the US (48/50 states - some I did sor of blow by...) and Mexico (25/31 states - lots more variety there!). I've driven all over western & eastern Europe. Been 'round Australia - off road (80 Series with a manual gearbox and 100 Series Land Cruisers. There was also a Humvee H1 - it did not make it.)
(- I actually still need to close the loop in WA).

Also toured North East and South east China. 4 Hrs travel / day works well.

I am not a fan of "See 14 European countries in 3 days" type of travel. Because that is not travel...

I wish a bench-seat was an easy/direct swap or an option on a Tacoma Double Cab. I have heard it is a comfortable seat. I would source one and swap out the buckets without giving it a second thought. I wouldn't even care if it the covering material was an exact match. The center console and periphrals prob makes it a non-starter, but I think a bench in the truck would be awesome.

I had a 1987 Bronco that offered one as an option and it came with nicer/upgraded material on the seats and doors to match. Still had the shift and the transfer case on the the tunnel. I think trucks should have or at least offer bench seats.

    Outside a Tacoma 22 hours.

In my new Tacoma. Portland to San Francisco. Only like 11 hours. That's nothing for a home grown MidWesterner.

Mine was just over 1200 miles which took about 23 hours. Alone. And it was actually in my 92 22re. No cruise control lol. In June starting in South Alabama. But it was smooth the whole way there and the whole way back. With A/C!

    Brutal!

I've done most of my longest trips alone, also. Sometimes I think it's actually better, because I only have to stop when I want to stop, or when I need fuel.

17 Hours, around 1000 miles from NC to OK. Wildest drive I have ever done as well as the longest. Woke up and went to be around the same time just different days. Went through a lot of caffeine

I broke 1000 miles without sleeping just twice.

Timewise, in my old 99 Tacoma, I drove from Big Bend in Texas to Moab, Utah. In New Mexico I went highway 9/180/491. Was just over 1000 miles and took me something like 21 or 22 hours. During the early morning hours around Lordsburg, NM it was pretty brutal mostly because I drove all night. Like rjaco, I drank through a lot of caffeine.

Distance-wise, I drove about 1100 miles from Munising, Michigan to Ogallala, Nebraska. It took me about 16-ish hours. That one was easy because I picked my new Tacoma up in Michigan and was bringing her home. Drove from about 9am to 1am. Pulled over and slept in a farmer's field when I felt like I was going to fall asleep.
