It's not hard getting 200K+ miles on ANY vehicle. It varies based on how you drive it, how well its maintained and how often you inspect it.

Everything in a vehicle is a compromise... My 2015 with a 4.0? Old interior and less refinements... BUT a proven drivetrain. My 2018 tundra? Again older driveline and not as pretty inside, burns gas like mad... BUT again proven drivetrain. 3500 RAM with a Cummins? Awesome towing but again higher repair cost, DEF, rides like a log wagon. Will the 3.5 run forever? Depends. Are you modding the hell out of your truck with a lift and huge tires? If so did you re-gear? Are you a maintenance fanatic? Do you live in the rust belt where the roads are salted all to hell? Are you willing to squeeze out that last 100K that might have some break downs and higher repair bills? It's a truck! Drive it, maintain it, and hope for the best.

o_O Graphing the average life-span of cars by date of manufacture will show a pretty steady increase. In the 1930's it was rare for a car to last longer than 6 years. My grandparents all agreed that a car was pretty much worn out if it had over 50,000 miles on the clock.

Fast forward to the 60's and the death number was 100,000 miles. In the 90's, (when I started buying cars,) it was closer to 130-150k miles, but you would still never see a 75,000+ mileage car on a used lot. The dealer usually would bundle those up and send them to auction, most of which were destined for export to Mexico or South America.

Currently the average lifespan of a car is 12 years or 200,000 miles. Lifespans are still increasing, but the rate of increase has slowed due to the economics of repair. Parts are complicated and expensive, so much so that its now common to hear the anecdote of a fender bender totaling out a new car. (Are there even still body shops around with a frame straightener rig?)

So yes, Toyotas are ever increasing in reliability. The number one cause of car-death isn't mechanical failure anymore, and hasn't been for a long while. So as long as you keep up with your maintenance and keep the mad hooligans from wrecking your shit, you can easily expect 200-400k from your vehicle.

I usually don’t keep vehicles past the “optimum” trade/sell point... I’m sure my Tacoma will make that.

Toyota has made Turbo cars and trucks before, nothing stopping them from offering them again if they choose to do so.

The way i think of a turbo charged engine is that it is another thing that is at risk of an expensive repair so IMO it dont matter if it has a turbo or not. if it runs fine then im good.

still would be nice to have a turbo in a truck just to hear hear that spool up from it. that would be awesome.

I am not really a turbocharged vehicle fan, but its nonsense to say that Toyota won't make them because they are unreliable. They made Turbo cars and trucks in the past and they were fine and you can walk into a Lexus dealer and get turbo vehicles that are obviously reliable.

    • No doubt that it is reliable, from what i think that toyota in there pick up trucks that they dont see why they would need to make a turbo charged engine. from my understanding is they are keeping it plan jane because it is a reliable engine. half of me says makes new engines, half of me says why fix something that isn't broke.

Really okay so why are they choosing not to? No diesel option, underpowered NA V6, behind the entire pack in terms of performance. What's the reason?

from my understanding is that there are going with the why fix something that isn't broke route. nothing wrong about it but more options would be nice.

Yeah ten years to innovate and they replaced the 4.0 with an engine that belongs in a Camry. Your analysis is irrelevant- compare the 3rd gen to the current market, not the last generation Tacoma. What is Toyota offering the midsize truck buyer compared to the rest of the auto manufacturers?

I love Toyota I'm just saying man you can't deny that they are in the back of the pack in terms of performance. Look how outdated the damn Tundra is. It is not competitive in the full size truck market AT ALL

My analysis is irrelevant? It was just a question man lol. You need to drink a few less redbulls.

What is Toyota offering offering a mid size truck buyer? A truck that lasts and doesnt look like a mini van.
