What are you talking about? The diesel going into the Colorado has been proven in Asia and Australia for quite awhile now. This has nothing to do with any motor in a Jeep or Mercedes.

The biggest powertrain news is that this new midsize will be the first of its class to get a turbo-diesel option: a U.S.-tuned 2.8-liter inline-four-cylinder Duramax GM has been using overseas. The engine was a joint design between GM and VM Motori

Yes it is a VW Motori. 05-06 jeep liberty got the 2.8 Diesel by VW Motori. The 07-08 grand cherokee got the 3.0 V6 Mercedes diesel.

I think the GM twins are great for the mid-sized truck market. They have pushed Toyoya to at least improve their truck. A lot of things GM is touting with their trucks Toyota has tried to address with the changes in the Tacoma. Things like better sound insulating , actual leather, expanding components from the TRD DCSBOR to the TRD DCLBOR, etc... I love Toyota products, we have a couple in our family. Having GM in the mix is great for the consumer mid-sized truck market. We are all winners no matter what brand you buy.

First off, the company's name is VM Motori. Second, VM Motori's current gen 2.8L Diesel is the A428, which is an updated and upgraded version of the R428 that was in your Liberty. I'm still not sure if the A428 is even the same engine as what's offered in the GM Twins. Pretty much everything I've read about the 2.8L Duramax states that it was developed and produced by GM, initially for their overseas markets.

Again, it's VM Motori. The 2.8 L Diesel offered in the GM Twins is NOT the same as the 2.8L Diesel that was offered in the Liberty.

Not sure I see the resemblance. Either interior looks nicer than the 2nd Gen Tacoma's.

The Canyon's is definitely upgraded in terms of materials over the Colorado's:

Holy crap your hate for the Colorado is strong! Why? Insecurity? The interior of the '15 Colorado is FAR better than the '15 Tacoma's. That was my observation, and pretty much EVERY single professional review I've read has said the same. How will the Colorado's interior compare to the '16 Tacoma's? Time will tell. Same for reliability and resale.

I've driven a couple different trims levels of both the Colorado and the Canyon. In terms of appearance, quality materials and fit and finish, the GM twins' interior was vastly superior to the 2nd Gen Tacoma's.

It's a VM Motori A428. GM may have made some slight modifications to the engine but at it's core it's basically a A428. GM is playing it up as their engine because they don't want people to tie it to Chrysler who uses that engine in a lot of their vehicles overseas. Most of the modifications GM have made to the engine for North America will be emissions related and will have very little to do with making the engine any better, or worse, than it's Asian cousin. I don't care how GM is dressing up the engine, when it actually gets here then maybe we can give it the pass or fail. I'm pretty disappointed in the choice of vibration dampener and the decision to go with a timing belt in the Diesel Colorado so I am also setting my hopes for this engine low.

I like it, simple, straight forward, easy to read knobs and buttons...though I am getting older. ;)

Do like the '16 Taco's interior a smidge better....but I like the Collie's exterior styling heaps and gobs better than the '16 Taco's.

    Especially with a little lift.

I think the Front end of the Colorado sucks. The rest of the Truck is bland.

Which is why I like it. Don't care for the "In yo' face" styling of the new Taco. Too machismo for me...

I preferred the 1st gen Tundra too...and the out going HiLux, very subdued styling.

Really wish Toyota went more this route...than a puffed up chest pounder.

Wish I could have gotten a pic of it, but I saw a leveled Canyon off road the other day and I thought it looked awesome.

    Cool story bro I know.

I do like the Canyon front end, except it looks too much like the Sierra.

I fail to see how this interior can be appealing. It honestly looks the interior of a 1998 Olds Bravada I used to own, which, not coincidentally, was nothing but problems. Seriously, this may be appealing to my grandmother who is 94 and drives an impala, but that seems about it.

I'm hoping the small diesel is a huge success for GM. It'll hopefully get Toyota to bring their small diesels to the US.
But I do agree with your assessment of the GM diesel, I don't like the vibration dampener or the timing belt
