With none of the USA emission equipment though... not to mention the HP number overseas is close to 200 HP and they chopped that back a good ways for here. I'm know this truck isn't all daisies from some it's own design flaws but this engine is an unknown until it runs over here with all that emissions crap tied in for a while.

Always expecting the worst. Good attitude to have. Do you have any better options on what motor that truck should have instead? 3.5L van motor from a Tacoma? 5.0L V8 from a Ford? They both have more HP than that truck and no DEF, why aren't they in there?

Better question is why these trucks aren't hybrids already. Box trucks spend how much time caught up in local traffic?

Diesel electric hybrid would stomp ass on box trucks.

Diesel electrics are crazy expensive and not offered in alot of the medium duties if any at all. Probably wouldn't outweigh the cost in fuel savings vs just a regular diesel. The next best thing to a hybrid in traffic is a diesel.

What experience do you have in diesel repair? I have alot. The majority of trucks coming in to my shop didn't have DEF issues. Just because you can do a search for DEF and a bunch of stuff comes up from a shitty Ram ecodiesel doesn't mean its happening to quality engines.

Diesel electric is out from Hino. Mythbusters did a run where they cut off 5 minutes of sitting around in a delivery truck (Diesel) and kept the truck driving. They got almost 20% fuel savings for a further distance traveled. I bet for most of these companies they could cover another $20K in cost in the lifespan of a box truck easy.

Yes, but the question was asked what engine I would want in a Tacoma. Thought it was an open-ended ideal-type-scenario question. My bad. But look at those mpgs. At only twice the cost of a Tacoma, your getting double the mpgs, or more. LOL

Hybrids can be faster than current cars. That electric torque and the extremely wide power band from electric motors with variable frequency drive is a great combination with an engine, even those that are a bit underpowered. There is a reason why a lot of luxury brands are putting in hybrids. It's to pass CAFE while getting better than before performance numbers with good mpg.

I'm still waiting for my FWD Tacoma with a 1.4 L gas turbo engine and rear electric independent drive. If done right it'd be a sick combination.

Wut? I bet is you remove the emissions equipment then the vehicle will not work. The computer in the vehicle will detect it.

Ever run out of urea in a diesel? Vehicle does not need it to run but it needs it for emission reduction.

When they pull the emissions they chip the truck. The chip gives dummy values for all the emissions sensors and voids the warranty. I've seen it done a lot around here.

That award surely goes to California, or possibly Illinois, or NY.

Yes I did. I almost threw your name in there too :D.

On a box truck I have to agree with your arguments. Perfect fit on a truck that needs good starting from a stop power and low fuel consumption in slow traffic.

You are comparing Accent to pickup?

Lets Compare most fuel efficient, most underpowered Accent to Golf Tdi...
Notice Cost to Drive 25 miles..... Even the most underpowered Accent can not beat Diesel..
