Colorado interior is crap. It's resale is crap. It's reliability is crap. But .... It has more horsepower. I don't give a shit. I'm buying the Tacoma.

Consumer Reports has never liked the Tacoma. They like the QDR but it's too truck like for them.

Thanks for the well supported, useful post. Don't agree on the interior. What's your source for resale, reliability?

You're kidding, right? Number one resale vehicle on the market vs a Colorado resale value?

I swear that Colo interior was pulled out of a last gen Malibu. By all means, if you like it, buy one.

Do you know what the '15 Colorado resale vs. '15 Tacoma?, I don't. Things change, the Old Colorado was not competitive, the New one is.

Colorado is more of a minivan with a bed. I wouldn't dare take that thing off road.

Toyota has also never had class-leading specs. Maybe they care that the Prius has best MPG but overall Toyota could give a rat's behind about power specs.

By all means, pay more for a Colorado with a worse interior, lower resale and reliability. Last Z71 crew cab I saw was damn near $42k. No thanks.

No one will know the resale until a few years pass. I remember a few years ago when everyone thought that after the Mercedes acquisition of Chrysler that their trade in values were going to skyrocket. It never happened.

If the new Colorado is a turd than it's trade in will be poopy.

The GM Twins do look good on paper and are good competition. My issue is with GM's corporate culture. It's talked about a little bit in this character assassination of GM. http://www.cnbc.com/2014/05/16/the-corporate-culture-behind-the-scenes-at-general-motors.html

It's going to take GM a while to change, if they ever do. Each individual employee and manager on down the chain has to buy into that idea of customer and quality first, production numbers and bottom line second. It's a hard ship to turn around when the actual employees are all the same people that grew up and learned how to do things the old way.

This is in contrast to Toyota which has embraced total quality management since like 1950 and it's burned into their corporate identity. It's reflected in their reputation for high quality, albeit perhaps boring or conservative vehicles. http://www.toyota-global.com/compan...ement_and_finances/management/tqm/change.html

This radio broadcast about NUMMI is a good example. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/561/nummi-2015
Although nummi opened in 1984 and recently shut down and GM quality has improved, I'm still not convinced they've learned their lesson.

In the end with the Colorado/Canyon I'll wait and see how they hold up after 5 years or so. It's possible they have a winner, but it remains to be seen if their production system can actually assemble it, at breakneck speed as they are now, and have it hold up for a 100k miles.

I honestly hope the Colorado is a hit and a good truck. That way Toyota will have to up their game/incentives etc. Only helps the consumer when there are numerous good choices to make for mid-size trucks out there.

So basically you just stated the Tacoma can get out towed and out hauled pretty seriously by a "minivan", how embarrassing being a "truck" that can't perform truck duties as well as a minivan...

Yep, all vehicles can have their problems, Toyota paid a record fine for their "unintended acceleration" and GM is about to get nailed on their ignition switch. Mary Barra at GM is turning things around on the quality front. And the critics are noticing. My Corolla has been nearly bullet proof and I had good luck with my 2009 Taco. Not everyone did though, living in CA., I didn't deal with the rusted frames. Going forward, Toyota can't rest on the laurels for quality, everyone else is catching up.

If you ever want to see hare reliable that motor is. Just look up jeep liberty CRD. Its the same VW motori 2.8. I had one in my liberty crd. great little motor for power and fuel economy. But it always had little issues over and over. Even after I did the green diesel hot tune. I ended up selling it because it was due for a timing belt job. $2500 parts and labor. Then on top of that I have 2 crack injector body's. At $1200 per injector it was time for it to go by by.
