I shortened mine this weekend. Read on here about a way to do it easier with pliers and hammer. That didn't work so I just grabbed the ball with a pliers (electrical tape on ends) and vise grips on the antenna about 4" down (which will be cut off anyways) and pulled and turned really hard. Came off pretty easily. Few scrapes in the paint on the ball but I didn't care. Cut the antenna with a grinder and found the new end to be too big to fit in the ball. Went back to the grinder and made it fit. Stuck the antenna end in some gorilla glue type stuff and hammer tapped the ball on. Waited a few min and rattlecanned the end black again. Looks pretty and doesn't hit my garage anymore!
