    Screw the 2 strokes. Yea they can be nice, but just go with a 250f. I dont want to read through everthing in this thread, but get a nice clean low hour 250f make sure it runs and idles WITHOUT THE CHOKE when your first buy it. It doesnt matter the brand just low hours and if possible get one from a guy the same weight. Try to get a green sticker bike, its important so you can ride during the summer. you dont need any racebike right now just get a plain jane newish 250f.

    I have a 2004 CRF250R and I love it. I haven't had time to ride in a long time though...

    ok screw the 125 then. im thinkin the 250 4 stroke. it also sounds wonderful i think. 2 strokes are easier to maintain?

    3"Toytec ULK, box mat, angle brackets in box corners for tie downs, anytime fog lights, bhlm, black grill and lip, trimed front flaps, 7089 procomp rims with 285/75/16 Toyo M/T tires, black badges with trd badges added,anytime foglights, lamin-x yellow fogs, illuminated 4x4 switch, colour match satoshi, Camburg ball joint UCAS.
    2 strokes are easier to maintain for sure. If you want a 2 stroke you should look into the ktm 150sx. It is suppose to be a really fun bike. I think a 125 may be a bit small for you. Good luck in you search.

    if a 250 4 strokes power scares you stay away from the 250 2t's lol. Think of it like this. A 250 4T has roughly the same peak power as a 125 2T, but the power on the 125 is a lot harder to use. A 250 2T has roughly the same power as a 450 4T but again, is not as easy to use.

    I love my 250 2T because it has plenty of low end power for enduro/harescramble riding I do. Plus I smoke all the 4T's off the line with the dead engine starts.:D

    FWIW my brothers CRF250f needed new valves at around 75 hours or so. Air filter cleaned with no toil every ride and oil changed with rotella T every 3 rides or so. Its got stainless intake valves now so it should be good for a lot more hours this time.

    yes, but you need to try riding both to see if the extra maintenance is worth it to you. For a lot of people it is.

    Just a small tid bit extra, dont let weight or height factor in with what size bike your ride, you can always have your suspension tweaked later for your exact specs and riding styles. Im 6'1 215 and scoot pretty good on a 125 and my 250f. I really think you will enjoy a 250f. Honestly 125's now the are a dying breed, easier to maintain but more maintenance, the 250f's if you just learn the maintenance on those and learn which specs your supposed to be at, you can still do it by yourself.

    mabey look into a ktm 200 2stroke, light like a 125, but power closer to 250...

    I have a 97 YZ 250 and an 07 DRZ 400. The 4 strokes are a little easier to ride, but cost about 8 times more to repair. Check out a KDX 200 or 220. They are stone reliable and have enough managable power for a beginner, but can be modded to entertain a skilled rider as well. My old 81 yamaha DT100 is still in the barn and is still a blast to play around on. Not exactly comfortable to ride, but it will smoke my wifes TTR 125. A lot depends on where you will ride and who you are riding with.
