The new Sundown Audio SD-3 10 is stout for their version of a shallow mount. Mounting depth is 4.45" and is 500w rms and only requires .5 cubic feet after displacement

    JL Audio: 10TW3 - D4
    • Very shallow mounting depth (3.25 / 3.50 Inches)
    • No pole vent: permits mounting close to rear wall of enclosure.
    • Very small sealed enclosure volume requirements: 0.5 cubic foot
    • Very long linear excursion capability (0.60 In / 15.2 mm, one-way)

I'm having a box built right now to go behind the drivers side rear seat in my DC. Amps will go under the front seats.

Kicker comp vr 10" is cheap and pounds with a 500w amp at 2 ohms. $80 on Amazon I think or maybe even less. All depends on what you're willing to spend.

I had kicker comp vr tens in my 4 runner and they sounded great. I currently have two of the 8" JL micro subs and they kick ass.

Probably because it is not a Dual Voice Coil like the JL Audio 10TW3. And at 254.99 for the JL Audio, and 599.99 for the Alpine. I think that is why it is not mentioned

When it comes to quality subs I think like anything else you get what you pay.

I just received my box for the same sub.

My box goes behind the drivers side rear seat. I haven't installed it yet, but just did a fit test and it seems the sub hits the rear of the seat's bottom cushion. I removed all the brackets from the back wall of the truck, is there anything else I need to do to gain ¼"?

Maybe I need to see if the seats can slide forward on their brackets.

From Mr Marv? I didn't have that issue even after I put leather seat covers on. When the seat is folded forward all the way it brushes up against the sub surround. But that's it

I have a kicker 12" and do not recommend kicker. Go look at soundqubed.com. There speakers are usually $280 but they are competition. One 10 pushes 1500w and maxes at 4500w

Sorry but these do not fit behind the seats of a tacoma and please don't confused RMS and PEAK WATTS, its not a max rating. The hdc3 series can tolerate for burps with a clean signal @ about 4500 if that but for daily application will not and thats why the hdc4 is there for but even still most subs do not tolerate 4.5kw for daily applications.

I'm sorry I typed it wrong I guess. 1500w rms and 4500w peak. Didn't mean to say you could run it at 4500w. And my friend has one. It bumps 1500 no problem and he put it to 4300 and it was fine. And yes I know what rms and peak are. I didn't say it could run 4500 daily

Either way, its not a good sub for a tacoma and here is why --

    1) Mounting depth(over 7 inches) coupled with 2)efficiency of under 85db @ 1500wrms rating means to get the most of this sub you need to supply it with a good amount of power but the amps available on the market to achieve this is slim. This sub also performs best in a ported applications which means that trying to fit a ported box built to spec for this sub and some how mount the amp there to give it 1500-2kw would be tuff unless you find a good micro chassis amp that fits under the front driver or passenger seat.

Sure you can power it with an alpine 1200wrms amp which does fit but now your compounding to limiting factors together plus having a 41hz fs means that you will most likely want to port it much lower to achieve a good result. This is more of an spl sub vs daily musical sub and why i mostly recommend the shok triton to people in tacoma's and daily vehicles over the bigger Elite X or titan.

There is literally 10+ subs id recommend to any of my customers in a Tacoma Dc over this specific hdc3

If this was an suv or a vehicle that had more space to work with to get the best performance out of these subs id fully agree with you, their not bad value for money. Not all subs perform equally in the same environment.
