I do a metric shit ton of research on a vehicle before I decide what years to look for/avoid. My advice is to see exactly what issues the 05 has and see if you are willing to deal with it if and when it shows up. Known head gasket issues is a big one in my book. But, a good deal is hard to pass on. I can't say if it's a good deal as I haven't paid attention to recent prices. I paid 16.4+ tax &tags a year ago for an 11 trd or with 100k even on it in great condition, brand new frame. At the time, it was a good deal. This covid bs has the pricing all kinds of ridiculous.

It seems like the major expense would be the head gasket. Other issues I’ve found are relatively inexpensive.

I've fixed a minor head gasket leak on a 92 S10 with blue devil head gasket sealant. 50 bucks, followed directions to the T, no issues driving cross country multiple times.

    Do you use synthetic oil?

Has the frame been replaced? If not have it inspected by a Toyota dealer!!

Just bought it for $16,500 runs like a champ no rust. Needs new headlight housing.

.A head gasket issue that may never happen wouldnt stop me from buying a vehicle in this low mileage mint condition. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to TW.

Looks good! I’ve got a 2005 with 289k miles and it never has had any major mechanical issues. Even with first years of a new model they’re still 500k mile trucks. Keep up the maintenance and you’ll be good. I use full synthetic oil in mine and recommend checking the coolant level at least each time you change your oil

Seems reasonable. TRD Off Road's are a fun package. (especially in the 6 speed) Is it original clutch? Like others have mentioned- head gaskets and check the frame (especially boxed areas) would also take a look at the cats as well.

    All stock, baby!
Congrats! Really nice looking truck there.

My headlights looked a lot more yellow than yours when I bought my Taco, and they cleaned up to about 95% clarity without that much work. Don’t be too quick to throw in the towel on these unless you’re looking for a cosmetic change.

Thanks! I love everything about it but the chrome bezel on the grill and the headlights. I think I’m going black in those areas.

the grill has to come off to do the lights so may as well do them both.
