Hey guy's, new to this forum. I am looking for a 98-04 tacoma 4x4 I've looking on craigslist for a couple months now but cant pull the trigger yet. Here's my question. What is a realistic price I should expect to pay for a truck ranging from 150 to 225 k miles?? Is the 225k too many miles?? Sorry, but going from a 03 mustang with 100k orginal owner to a truck with that milages has me a bit worried...thanks kn advance.

Depends on what your looking at specifically. TRD will fetch a higher price, while in some areas the 4cyl's are sought out and in mine we all want the V6 so there priced higher. Four door is gold so those will be over 10k with tons of miles regardless of the motor. 4x4 is a big factor.

Rust is going to be your biggest challenge with these trucks and you will see that well documented on the site. Also ball joint can be a devastating thing to overlook.

I sold my 2000 Tacoma for close to 13k with 150k miles, but that was with a lot of aftermarket parts. I was lucky to find the right guy who didn't want to install all that himself.

225k isn't that bad with a Tacoma as long as the owner can show you maintenance records, otherwise your rolling the dice.

Personally I'd pay around 8k for an ext cab with a V6 and 160k miles non TRD, but 4x4.
TRD easily throw 2k on that price.
Reg cab in my area 6500, maybe cheaper if its ugly at about 5k.

    And 2wd I've seen a Reg cab with 200k go for 2k.

Where are you located, and what is your preference/style your looking at?

Looking to get a extended cab,4x4 prefer manual trans. Not sure if i want to get the 6 or 4 engine yet,not to picky.would use it as a dd m-f then on some weekends take it too the foothills in Ca and go gold digging/fishing...nothing to major. Trd isn't a huge deal breaker cause i would probably put some bilsteins on in the future...realistically trying to spend between 6500-7500.

If your on the fence on the 4 or 6 I would highly recommend going with the V6. That's my preference and plenty of others love there four bangers so take it for what it is. It would probably benefit you to check out one of each and see what you think.

I'm in NC so CA either values there trucks equal to us, or even on the higher side. If your patient you can find one with 160-180k miles in your price range. She will probably be close to stock or a mild lift leaving you to do with her as you please. My 2000 Taco I bought for 6k, it just needed a lot of work and had 140k miles on it.

The bilsteins are not the main difference between TRD and not. Its the factory rear locker which I've heard is amazing. Never had one so cant speak from personal experience.

Im selling my 2000 Tacoma sr5 v6 4x4 with 138000 miles. Only problem is that I live in Canada. No rust ,bought back in 08 from las vegas with only one owner. Did maintenance myself and never have had a problem. Only reason im selling it is because I need a truck that can hold a car seat and the extended cab doesn't cut it. So i went with a 2017 tacoma instead :)
