Evening folks - Looked at a 99' pre runner w/ a 2.7 today, 340,000 miles. Over all it's in decent shape for its age. Crawled underneath and noticed an oil leak. Owner said he had the oil filter housing gasket changed a couple weeks ago. My cell phone light was inadequate in helping to identifying the leak. Could be residual oil from the repair or something else. Is there anything common to look out for on these 1st gens......rear main seals, etc. I guess anything is in play when it's got 340,000 miles though.

Frame rust for sure. That's a big one.

oil pans can rust through and seep. Rear mains, valve covers, timing covers. If its in good shape and no frame rust it could be worth fixing.

Frame is good to go. The oil leak is really my only concern. I'd hate for it to be a rear main seal

Its a 5 dollar part no sweat. Replacing the rear main isn't really that hard. Easy weekend project especially on a 2wd.
