So Toyota is buying back my '97 and I'm looking at 1st Gen DC's

    I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0743506103&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT

its local to me, the price is fair, and it looks really good! Upon researching the truck history a red flag came up. If you click on the "FREE HISTORY REPORT" there seem to be a couple issues. In particular the Odomoeter.

Does this mean the odometer was tampered with or something?? I plan on going to take a look at the truck but don't want to make the trip if there is a serious issue with the title.

Anyone have insight/experience with this type of thing?

    Thanks!

I talked to the seller and he thinks the same as you do about the mileage. Don't really care that it was a smoker, I am too at times :rasta: and thats what seat covers are for I guess.

Being a FL/NC truck there isn't a speck of rust I can see.

Its 4dr , 4 x 4 sr5 v6 and in great shape, I'l look at it ealy next wk and go from there.

    Thanks for the responses!

Someone spray painted almost all of the undercarriage. Also, its not a TRD if that matters to you.

One other thing I noticed is that the tires dont match all the way around, and one of the tires is brand new. Could mean he had an unrepairable leak, but could also mean it has some suspension issues...or maybe he just got a really good deal on a new tire...?

So I went to see this truck this past weekend and it looks fantastic and drives great! I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on it but the Carfax is really scaring me :(

In '08 it was listed as having 194k miles averaging over 30k miles a year.

Now it shows only 128k miles  WTF too good to be true I guess

The truck was SUPER clean and sure doesn't seem like its got 200k miles on it.. He said I could return the truck if it doesn't check out with my mechanic.. Do I take the chance??

for sure, the only thing is its over an hour from my mechanic so I think I'd have to give a deposit for him to let me take the truck

yea he went way overboard with that. The paint is on EVERYTHING! is it bad to spray paint shocks, drive shaft, etc?

Haha when I saw them I thought "well at least I know a thread that tells me how to fix those"

I'v got my eye on another 02 DC TRD w/ 116k but it needs a TON of maintenance done, water-pump, belts, o2 sensor so only if I can get it real cheap would I consider droppin $2k on service. God this is nerve racking

I just noticed you were from jersey. Doesn't our inspection stickers have vin numbers and mileage??I can't recall. I wonder if you could check with the DMV? When it gets inspected the mileage is noted each year. Maybe that's one way to verify miles.

truck came from an auto auction in FL and is for sale in NY. I had my friend do the Carfax and it was recorded at 194k in '08.. It does not look like a 200k+ truck at all.

Hopefully it checks out with my mech and I can talk him down since someone rolled back the miles.

Its a digital odometer.. any way to run it through a computer and get the REAL mileage??

Not really sure. My 2002 dodge ram had a digital dash and had 2 computers ( 1 under dash and 1 under hood)that had to be replaced to fix the miles. I don't think I'd buy a truck with 200k miles on it. Toyota or not. $10k is a lot of money to risk on a truck with those miles.
