I am looking at a 2003 4runner V6 auto with 140,000. Do the 4th gen have the strawberry milkshake problems? Does the V6 have the head gasket problems? 140,000 seems to be in the ballpark for failure. Any problems with the frames on 4th gen? Make sure 4wd works.Any other things to look at?

No milkshake, signs are rough start, eating coolant followed by CEL P030#, usually 6 or 4. That's right around the mileage they usually show, mine was 160k.

That's really the only big issue, far less frame rust issues, if any, compared to the taco.

I'm also looking at a 2003 4runner sport 4x4 but this one has the 4.7L with 125,000. What are some things to look out for or things I should ask about it. Thanks :)

timing belt on the 4.7. If it wasnt done at 100k it'll need to be done ASAP. The 4.7 is an interference motor so if the timing belt lets go, bye bye engine

Oh ok so they do have a timing belt. Good to know. I thought I heard someone say they had a timing chain. Any other good info about them I should know about?

    Yeah, belt on the 4.7
One thing to also consider is that the 03/04 were less efficient in terms of mpg and hp. In 05 they gained vvt-i that bumped the hp pretty decently (like 40hp or so) and this also helped the efficiency of it, I think it bumped them a mpg. Our 05 4.7 on 35" tires, lifted, and with off-road armor gets the sticker 14/18 that it was rated for stock. Can't complain about that

Oh wow that is a good jump in years. And impressive with the upgrades you have. Well its a pretty good deal on it so with the money i save looks like I'll have to get another supercharger haha
