    Hi there,
I am in the market for a pickup truck, and I went to an estate sale recently and they had a very nice 1995 Tacoma, original owner, 4x4 extended cab with 68000 miles on it. They were asking $3500 for it. It needed a jump start and ran fine, but the clutch pedal is on the floor. The master cylinder seems to be essentially full (I only eyeballed it for a minute).

I offered $1250 for it, without driving it. I'm not usually comfortable doing that, but it's awfully clean and the engine seems to run smooth without smoking or any noises. I have been a big Jeep guy for a while, so I'm no stranger to wrenching. I figure this is a clutch master cylinder swap (or slave, or both, I guess). Anything else I should be worried about? The shifter goes into every gear easily and locks in firmly.

Also, if anyone has any "watch outs" on 95 Tacomas, I'd appreciate that. I am in the northeast, but the frame looked solid. Some pretty good scale on shock and exhaust mounts, but not enough to scare me away. I think 1250 is a good offer, but I'm not sure I'll get it for that much. If I had to go higher, how much would be "too much" on something like this -- I know that's a relative question.

    Thanks for the time!

    Tom

If your Tacoma is a V6 from 1995 to 2004, replace the belt at 60k miles . If you've got a 4-cylinder from 1995 to today or a V6 from 2005 to today, your Tacoma has a chain so you can sit this one out.

This would be a great offer for you but what sellers consider lowballing. Don't hold your breathe awaiting a response.

Right. I'm not dealing with the seller, it's an estate salesperson. It is a lowball offer, but considering I can't drive the truck and have to tow it home, it's probably not far off the other offers they will get. Who knows what else is up with the truck. Maybe nothing, maybe a lot. Already heard back from them, though, so breathing OK.
