What are y'all's thoughts on a Tacoma I'm looking at buying. I'm more familiar with tundras.

it's a 2019 Tacoma access cab (which I like) SR5 with 200k miles for $19,500. It's had 1 owner which was a business so it was regularly maintained. No accidents it's pretty clean

    Is this a deal?

    I currently own a 2014 tundra crewmax, 2011 tundra crewmax, and a 2003 tundra access cab. Well and a 2007 rav4 but that's my wife's car.

Definitely take an extended test drive before buying. I like mine, but the engine likes to rev, and many don’t understand the 2 over drive gears.
$20k for a 200k mile truck is just F’n insane to me.

Welcome to the forum. Personally I’d shy away from any vehicle with 200K on the clock. But if you do pull the trigger I’d try for a price around $18K.

    Oh yeah, BTW- welcome!

I wouldn’t assume that a company vehicle was well taken care of,,, maintenance and give a F wise when driven,,,, signed by the guy who’s had a company vehicle for over two decades. I maintain mine and don’t beat on it,,,,, BUT

Welcome. Unfortunately nothing still seems to make sense in the used car market.
    I’m assuming it’s the 3.5 V6 auto?
200k, maybe if it’s a lot of highway miles?
Have you test drove it? Will it get a thorough inspection.

A few items to look out for are the front timing cover leak and the coolant bypass at the rear of the engine.

In my opinion, there are better used trucks to be had, but you will have to look and be patient. I look at a company vehicle like a rental car. Do you really give a damn about a rental? I’m sure they are “maintained”, but how diligently and did all those different drivers, not owners, care for the truck as much as you would if it was your daily. It’s a tough decision and from the sellers standpoint he knows these trucks hold resale value. He’s a businessman just trying to get as much as possible to put down on a new company vehicle to make his business more money. Good luck and welcome to TW.

Your assumption is correct it's a v6 3.5 automatic it's pretty much all highway miles I haven't driven it yet or seen it in person it'll be sometime this week when I'll be able to do those things

Super valid points we all I'm assuming take decent care of our personal trucks and let me tell ya when I get a rental vehicle I'll drive it like I stole it. You're right im sure with patience and constantly looking I could find a better deal for me this seemed like a decent deal given I'm not very familiar with tacos and their actual value ranges

I agree I'm trying to see if they'll take 16k cash for it but they're being a bit firm on it. I'm not to scared of the miles my 2003 tundra has close to 300k on it and it doesn't have a single issue I'd drive that tundra across the country today without hesitation

I'd rock a V6 SR5, no problem. Probably the most reliable of them all.

But, I think I'd be hard pass for me. Thats seems like too much mileage in a too short amount of time. (Think Taxi).

There's gotta be lower mileage Taco's out there for close to the same price. :notsure: Myself, I've driven 5 hours to a bigger city to check out used vehicles. More competition, usually means better deals....

Wow that's a lot of miles on a 2019. As others mentioned I'd keep looking. But, if well maintained and they take your offer if $16k might be a good buy. These tacos are selling for crazy money in the used market. Just for shits and giggles I got an offer from Carvana for mine and it was the same as what l paid for it new in January 21'.

Yeah I've no intention of selling it though. Mine only had 23k on it but I doubt I could afford a new one at today's current prices. Good luck with your search, if that one doesn't work out I'm sure you'll find the right one eventually.

When I went shopping for tacomas, one dealer advised me to get the 2020 which I did. My buddy had a 2019 trd and hated it. For some reason the truck had more vibration issues, and never had the same performance level my 2020 sr5 has. I'm surprised this 2019 the op looked at has that kind of miles to. I think if the truck has always been left bone stock, you have a better chance of having a decent truck. At any rate, you gotta expect a ton of maintenance is due on it if not done already.

Hard pass on that price and mileage . Definitely shop around some more . Or wait till the 4th gen Tacoma’s are out and might be able to snag a 3rd gen for a decent price .

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Personally, I don’t like anything about my Tacoma. It has the wrong cam profile in it and makes plenty of power in all the wrong ROM ranges for a truck (shouldn’t have to get a tune) which causes gear hunting.

It doesn’t fit me well at 6’3” 235.

It rides like a 90’ caprice with blown shocks when you put anything over 100lbs in the bed.

fit and finish lack, as does QC at the factories, and it shows.

It’s probably the worst truck I have ever bought. My 98 Mazda drove better, rode better, got better mileage, and hauled better.

but, I bought this “truck” knowing it would be temporary, and miss an actual truck. when you decide to go back to being retired, you cut some costs to continue living the life you enjoy living.
