Well hell monkeyheads....got my new ride today!

Black SR, V6 4x4.... 5 miles on the ODO

Just noticed there no "Oh Shit" handle on the driver's side. I feel cheated.

I can't say I like the transmission in this thing. Seems like it hunts gears at low speeds.

Reckon I'll get some Weathertechmats & side steps. Gunna shop around for some nice wheels to replace the steelies. Already found new tires.

Congratulations on the new truck! The mileage on your other truck is insane. I had a 2 hour one way commute to Houston once upon a time and it wore me out. I don’t know how you do it but that’s awesome.

Meaning… here we go with the Taco mods! Amazing mileage on your old truck. Glad to know it’s possible for the V6 to last that long.

Take it easy on the new ride and let the thing break in nice and easy. This gear-hunting issue is overblown. It will smooth out over time.

Not a lotta mods, just upgrades. Altho I did see a shift knob with buttons for the ECT PWR that I'm seriously thinking about getting.

I did notice I have the cargo light & switch so I may get the bed lights if I get the tonneau cover since it's pre-wired for it.

Side steps are a must... Hard to get my big ol' ass in the cab.

Insane milage! Love these posts with high milage Tacomas. Enjoy your new truck and hopefully it serves you just as well as your old truck.

I didn't know it was an issue until I read a few posts on TW today after I got home with it.

I feels like it can't get out of own way, like a hesitation of some sort.....almost 4 cylinder-ish. My wife's RAV4 has the ECO / SPORT modes and feels almost the same way.

My 2012 has no problem gettin' up & gettin' gone when ya step on the gas.

Why do you do for work that pays well enough to deal with a four hour daily commute?

You're pushing a 4,500 pound truck with a V6, it ain't no Porsche - never was never will be.
Steady as she goes easy does it for a while. It has ummmph at the upper end when you need it.
    Let it break in.

Best cure for the "modding disease" ... run away from TW immediately and never look back.

There is a software update people perform called KDMax (search for your local provider of the service). But as others said you might want to let it learn your for a few miles to see if it improves enough for your tastes.

    As little as possible... LOL

I work for an oil company as a lab director / technician. Been there 28 yrs.

We sell asphalt (oil to make the hot mix they pave with) & emulsions (tac coats, chip seals, pavement preservation surface treatments) to the paving contractors. I believe we're the largest marketer of asphalt in the country.

If ya drive on asphalt pavement, it's more than likely my company had a hand in some part of the process.

We operate terminals all over the country and a few in Mexico as well.

We have a marine division with the largest heated barge fleet on the inland waterways. Another marine division that refuels & supplies groceries & other services to the tow boats along the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers.

We also supply base lube oils to various markets like tire makers, paint makers, store brand motor oil packagers. You'd be surprised at how many brands come from a single base source. We supply specialty oil to fill electrical transformers.

We have a division that makes undercoating for vehicles. Waterproofing emulsion coatings for concrete pipes & structure underground.

There are various construction, insulation & maintenance sections that keep it a functional.

    Great company to work for.

Not going to do any burn-outs or drag race it no time soon.

Cruised back home from the dealer 75mph @ about 1750 rpm... My old truck would be a tick above 2000 rpm and she still gets ~22 mpg!

Ya only feel the "weirdness" at low speed around town. I'm confident it'll be ok.

The finance guy asked me about how many miles I expected to put on that truck per year, setting up to sell me the extended warranty package. I declined it and he pushed harder....
I told him I have 2012 with 530k on it.... that's why I'm buying another.... and had no extended warranty on the first one either.
