    Update
I'm patiently waiting to see what's going to happen with the economy. My job is secure for the foreseeable future but I hate taking on new debt, and more so when it looks like 2008 all over again. I wish everyone would just step back and take a deep breath. Put the 18-pack of toilet paper down and chill a bit.

In the meantime, if the dealer calls with a super deal, I'll reconsider. Otherwise, I'm in a holding pattern for now.

I'm in my 50's, 6'2", 220, and don't have any comfort/space issues with my Tacoma. It's my first Toyota, and my first pick-up. I have the "feeble" 2.7L / 6MT combo, and while it's not my weekend car speed-wise, it does just fine. I also like the fact that the 2.7L is still manufactured in Japan. It'll hunt a bit on the freeway with cruise control set, but that stopped bothering me as well. In hilly terrain, I turn the cruise off on that settles the matter. My biggest complaint when I bought mine was the lack of a fully adjustable drivers seat, but they've addressed that. I own my vehicles until the cost of a repair is higher than the vehicle is worth, so I have a suspicion that I'll have this truck for 20 years. I like it so much, I wish I'd have bought one years ago.

6'3". Ive weighed more, and Ive weighed less. Never had a "discomfort" issue, either in my fatass days or my "skinny enough for tinder" days. Its a truck that sits like a car, cabin wise: your feet extend out well under the dash, not down under your ass. Thats probably why I like it over other trucks. If you are expecting it to sit and drive like an old 1970's GMC conversion van, get a Tundra. I'm probably one of the only ones here that can't stand the Tundra's handling and ergonomics.

Like getting an average 12mpg? Get a Tundra. Have a buddy with a '17 and the 5.7. He drives it easy. Every time I get in his truck, and that's pretty often, he has the avg miles/gallon screen up. It NEVER has said over 12mpg that I have noticed. And no, the Tacoma doesn't set any records, but my Off Road averages half again what the Tundra does.

I'm 54 and 5' 10'' and I will bump my head against the top of the door opening almost every time I get in my '18 DCSB but I am used to my old '01 Tacoma which is made different around the door and doesn't have side steps on it (don't really care for the side steps just haven't taken them off the '18 yet, lol). I'm also from the coastal southeast which is flat land so auto transmission doesn't hunt for gears much but like someone else posted in adaptive cruise control is will shift a little strange. As for rear drum brakes Toyota has ran them on their trucks forever, they work so no worries with them. The 3.5 V6 has plenty of power with the AT, a little slow off the line but when it hits mid RPM range it comes to life. Take a Tacoma out for a test drive and a Tundra as well go with the one that fits you best and you wont be sorry for it, I've owned Toyota's since 1986 and they are about as bullet proof as you can get.

I know you want a truck and you said you occasionally use it. But have you thought about buying a small utility trailer? Spending $1000 on a good trailer (or $250 on a folding harbor freight special) and saving $5-10k in vehicle might be a way to go about this.
Also, test drive a 4runner. Holy crap. The drivers seat is soooooo much better than the Tacoma. So is the comfort of the drive. But my rental was a SR and my taco is an OR.
Think I read in the news Chevy is doing 7 year 0% financing. If you wait a month or two, other manufacturers may follow suit...

I'm 61, 6'5" , 285. Never have I hit my head in or on my Tacoma. I have owned full sized trucks since the 80's, with a Datsun and a Ranger mixed in. More Chevy's than Fords. I like my Toyota. Never had a perfect vehicle or I would still have it. Buy what you like. Got a bad back, nothing is comfortable, drive a while, stretch a bit.

. All these things are true about Tacoma but it is not true about ever Tacoma. I have a 17 OR. And my biggest complaint is acceleration. It seems like between 40 and 50 mph when you want to accelerate the truck burps first and then accelerates. However on the highway driving 50 to 60 mph and accelerating it does just fine. Not a big big problem for me just saying. Had my wife and son in the truck the other day and boy I felt cramped in a small area. I am considering moving to the tundra and I know I will be losing the best thing I like about the Tacoma and that is gas mileage. Oh well can’t win them all I guess

Geez, I didn’t think this discussion would spiral out of control so fast! Everyone is different, no need to resort to name calling!

On my F-150 Screw, I will hit my head on the jamb if I don’t duck a little. I’ve been tall a long time and learned to duck early on! It’s not like I have to crawl into a Taco or F-150 like I used to do on Mustangs!
