Looking at TRD pro rims, change tire size?

Let me start by saying thanks for all the help I’ve been getting from the community since joining recently.

I am looking at TRD Pro rims whether it be 17” 4Runner rims or 16” Tacoma pro rims. When I get the new rims I assume that the 16” Tacoma rims will give a (very) slightly better ride with 265/70/16’s than I will get with 265/65/17’s (stock) right?

If I switch to the TRD pro rims with 265/70/16’s that shouldn’t cause anything to rub right as tire is almost identical to stock size that I listed above? Mine is a sport and I know the pros are slightly higher, but I can’t see that setup causing any issues correct?

You should be fine OP I did the same thing on my Taco. I've got a set of used OEM 16" Pro wheels (like-new condition) if you're interested or the company I work for manufacturers Pro replica wheels in 17" and 16".

I was wondering the exact same thing as the OP. I just want to be clear..
If I get the TRD pro rims in 16's with 265/70/16 tires, is it safe to safe I would not need a lift?
    I have a 2019 TRD sport 4x4

    Thanks!

Sounds like it. I’m pretty sure the tire size calculator on here is like the handiest thing on this site sometimes haha

Awesome thanks for letting me know. How much do you want for your set? Unfortunately I feel like the shipping to where I am would kill me lol. I will look at your company’s ones before buying anything thanks

    265 70 16 will be 100% ok.

265 70 17 can rub on mud flaps.

265 75 16 never rubs and is the magic size. Go one size bigger. DO IT

I got the 17" 4R Pro wheels and put on 265/70R17 Falken Wildpeaks. No rubbing or issues and no lift.

You do know 265/70-17 and 265/75-16 are the same tire size, right? They are both 31.6" tall. Check the BFG KO2 specs on Tire Rack if you don't believe me.

If 265/70-17 rubs in your application the 265/75-16 will rub as well. I have had 265/75-16 on both of my Tacomas with the TRD Beadlock wheels and both trucks would rub the mudflaps under certain circumstances at stock ride height.

It's the offset on 17's, I know they are the same. I see 17's rub all the time with that size simply due to wheel selection.

Another reason the offroad 16" is better than the sport and some of the TRD 17's.

Offset and tire size are not the same. In fact wheel size and offset is not the same thing. You are making incorrect blanket statements. With the wrong offset you could make any tire rub. As I stated, I have 265/75-16 (your "magic" size) and they rubbed my mudflaps on both my 2G and 3G.

That's with stock suspension. You might be able to fit bigger if that's what you're going for.

You could run 255 85 16, no lift, no rub with those wheels. Couple of very long threads on the topic.

Some folks don't like 'skinny' tires.

Most folks will never know the difference.

I have a '17 TRD Sport with the 4runner 17" TRD matte black rims along with BFG K02 285/70/17 using a 3/2 ready lift and there is no rubbing at all even with the factory mud flaps
