That was my experience too until I had mine tuned with KDMax pro +xt . Glad I never went thru with the trade in (4Runner). Now it’s just fun to drive . No other issues at 77000 miles. No oil/coolant leaks. Ac is ice cold. I change the oil myself every 5t miles . Had all the fluids replaced and pcv valve replaced too (as preventive maintenance). Zero issues .

AN ADVISE to you or any future used tacoma buyer
After a good amount of test drive on any Tacoma of your choice not just 2017, have them place it on a lift and look for signs of fluid leaks. Bring a strong flashlight . Front timing cover and rear main seal leaks are expensive to fix . Also look for any signs of coolant leak on the rear bypass valve passenger side back of the engine . Look for pink crusts or signs of it . Its an expensive fix. Those CAN be a potential issue in all 3rd gen v6 tacomas with high mileage not just the 2017 . It’s not really common but it does happen to some unlucky owners. Mines got 77000 miles with zero issues . It’s just the luck of the draw. Hint: ask them to remove any skid plate so you can inspect the underside better.

I feel 2017 is the ideal year.
They had some time to sort out first model year issues and no TSS system to cause problems as it ages.

I have a 2017 OR that I bought new with 85k and zero mechanical issues and I needed another pickup so I bought a 2017 PRO used with only 26k miles. I hate the TSS stuff, but like the power rear window which started in 2017. Just avoid a Super White, my paint is one of many that is flaking off.

Yup, my dealership did it when I took my taco in for my first oil change.
