I've been trolling, but having a hard time finding the info I want. What were the specific changes 2016-2019?

I have a 06 TRD OR that is getting long in the tooth. It was supposed to retire to be something I used only for vacations to the mountains at around 100K miles. At the next oil change it will be 190K and its still my daily driver. Thinking about getting a used or new third gen.

When I got my 06 I knew more about what was available than most of the salesmen. I had to go out of my region to get the options I wanted. I've done lots of mods over the years, but haven't kept up with the new stuff. I was hoping to find some posts that outline what changes happened year to year. I know the 3rd gen started around '16. New interior around '17 or '18. Now, in addition to the TRD Sport and OR, there are Limited and Pro trim levels. But if I'm going to look at used trucks, I really need to have an idea what was different year to year.

Seems like almost every summer/fall there's a thread about the changes for the upcoming year - but I can't find them.

Anyone have links to info on the changes? I don't expect you guys to do all the legwork for me, but if anyone can point the way hopefully I'll make more progress.

Also happy to hear opinions on years to avoid/look for.

    Thanks in advance.

2016 was the first year of the Gen 3’s, a few folks have reported issues on them (you can spend hours on here reading that). 2017 was the last year without the nanny safety sense stuff and in 2019 Toyota eliminated the inferno color and a storage box in the bed. There are other minor changes (grille, leather seats, colors) but nothing major until the next generation.

For me, if buying used, I would seek out a NON modified Tacoma (whatever year is your fancy)... these vehicles have such modification potential that without exercising due diligence, there is no telling what you’ll really get.

The sliding rear window automation was introduced between 16-17 if I’m not mistaken. A lot of people like that feature. I just hit the button with my knee. Lol. They relocated the button in the 18-19 I think.
