Hey everyone, it's been a while since my last post. I went from a 2014 TRD OR to a 2007 T4R v8 and I'm missing both but looking for a good ole' 1st gen now!

I'm looking for a v-6, 5-spd, 4x4 (pref with locker) in an extended or dual cab setup. I'm not wanting to deal with rust as I'm in the south, but as long as it's not so bad to cause concern, they are old trucks, I get it.

    Thanks, everyone!

    P.S. I would also love to find a clean 3rd gen 4runner, 4x4, 5-spd, v6 too

FYI, I found one in good shape minus the clearcoat and some dents. He's wanting $11,500 which seems a little high considering the body, but maybe I'm being picky? It's 4x4, extended cab, clean interior, 5-spd, recent maintenance done, 220k miles and no rust. What do you guys think? I'll post some pictures. It drove great though, everything felt solid.

I know dealerships want 20k for example, but I can't justify that with something that has 200k miles.

FYI, first gen double cabs did not come in a 5-speed. Some people have macgyvered them, but I wouldn't really trust those.

That's great to know, I appreciate the info! I'm not fully up to speed on the 1st gens but I know I want a 5-spd and I would prefer a little more room than a single cab so I guess I'm stuck with the extended cab, which I'm completely fine with, I don't need a 4 door anyways.

Any thoughts on that Tacoma and price?

That’s pretty high for 220,000 miles. The undercarriage better be rust free for that price. However, the nice manual trans tacos aren’t super easy to come by. A good price would be like $7-9k.

Edit: paint is rough. Definitely not a $11,000 truck.

Price seems okay to me, but I am used to west coast pricing. Make sure you check for rust and maintenance records. Try to get the price down closer to 10k maybe.

Edit: looking closer at the pictures, the grill, headlights, and turn signals are in rough shape. Definitely negotiate on the price.

They are just hard to find. I've been checking autotrader, craigslist, and now this forum but I guess I just need to shop around for a while. Most places have them marked up so much it's crazy, you look at that long enough and it starts to feel normal :/

1st Gen 4WD double cabs are getting insane in pricing, I haven't found a decent one under $12k. My insurance just called to let me know my premium was going up due to cost of replacement/parts availability.

    Goodluck with your search!

Thanks for the replies and information, everyone!

I'll still be keeping my eye open for something really clean (especially if I can find a similar 3rd gen 4runner) but I have picked up a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, extended cab, 4WD with e-locker and a 5-speed from a fellow forum member (wjcunningham3)! It'll be my next project and second vehicle (for now).
