I hope I'm not beating a dead horse but I drive around too many twat waffles on daily basis and need something to protect me from legal/insurance issues if it ever comes down to it.

Living in California I need something that can withstand the heat, with as clear of a picture as possible, with a wide view and won't break in a matter of a couple months.

I know our Tacos have a GoPro mount, but am not sure if GoPro is a solution or not. Last camera I had died in 2 months, most likely because of the heat.

    Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

I have a single generic forward looking dashcam only and have decided to get a rear facing one as well- if you are worried about insurance, I think you should go with one of those with whatever system you buy.

For something that will be a full-time dash cam you want something with good heat sinks. Most go-pros or other action cameras aren't really designed to be run for several hours non-stop. I have front and rear facing Mobius Action cameras with large external heat sinks. IMO, they are the simplest and cleanest cameras available for use as dash cams. They don't have any of the bells and whistles as most other dash cams (GPS, motion detection, etc), but the software allows some flexibility for how you set it up. The front uses a wide angle lens and the rear camera has a standard def lens. Both have 1080p recording with audio. They are also really tiny but this is due to the lack of a screen or display. IMO, screens on dash cams are a distraction while driving, especially at night and the screen is seldom used once you set the camera up.

Sorry man, I’m into mine about a year now, and I live in the desert where it has survived two summers so far.It also has GPS and logs position and speed on the video if you want it to (good for your teenage driver!). Edit: I only use the camera and GPS functions, and set the screen off while driving:

Blackvue just released their 4k dash cam that might be worth looking at. www.blackboxmycar.com has a good selection of dash cams and sample vids.

I have a Blackvue 750. Its freaking sweet. Its hidden behind the rear view mirror so I don't even see it. Plus its hardwired so no cables hang out.

i've been running a Street Guardian SG9665GC (front facing) and a Spytec A118-C (rear facing) in a mini cooper since Nov. 2015 without issue; and just moved a Spytec A119v2 into my tacoma.

They're all fairly basic, capacitor-based cameras (no parking mode, no wifi, etc) with good/very good video quality.

I plan on getting the Rexing V1LG with rear add-on w/ parking mode hook-ups.

Here's the link from Amazon: Rexing V1

Just recently upgraded to this unit. It's large but works well. I have it mounted to my gopro mount. I also got the hardwire kit from Rexing since it doesn't use USB for power.

My previous dashcam was a Roav C1 which now resides in my wife's car. Also a good and affordable camera.

I'm running a Blackvue DR750S-2CH. It's worth spending a little extra money on a good dash cam.

Will be upgrading to the DR900S-2CH soon.

When I asked this question on another forum I had a lot of recommendations for this one:

    Street Guardian SG9665GC v3 2017 edition + 32GB microSD Card + CPL + USB/OTG Android Card Reader + GPS, Supercapacitor Sony Exmor IMX322 WDR CMOS Sensor DashCam 1080P 30FPS (Best Of - DashCamTalk) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U0OJMYG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XBEyBb82EE634

You’ve already received this as a recommendation in this thread, so I would say it seems to consistently be a recommendation.

How did you mount this to the gopro mount? I got this one too. I do have a bit of buyer's remorse since I can't replay the video from the screen. I thought I was going to be able to do that. So if I get in an accident I can't show the officer at the scene what happened right then and there.

SFSG...DashCamTalk indicated that initial batches had subpar microphones, but the manufacturer has since resolved...mine haven't had any issues.

I actually got this custom mount from Shapeways but found out that the V1 mount is different than the V1LG. The V1LG mount uses 2 brackets instead of 1.
    https://www.shapeways.com/product/PJSDBHAWB/gopro-clip-to-rexing-dashcam-mount-best-way

I ended up shaving down the 3D printed mount and epoxied the V1LG mounting bracket to it. Worked great.
