Hello all, I've been lurking here for a while and I finally decided to join up! I'm looking up upgrade the suspension on my 17 TRD Sport (RWD) and I'm really new to these sort of mods, so I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything or going the wrong way about any of my plans.

Vehicle: 2017 Inferno DCSB TRD Sport RWD

Use: daily driver in an urban environment. Might see a dirt or rocky road anywhere a few times a year (a trip to a Sedona trail head or some other place where a truck/SUV is needed, but 4x4 isn't). No towing or significant hauling.

Goal: a lift slightly higher than just a leveling kit. Perhaps 3" in the front and 2" in the rear. From what I've read, I'd really like to avoid spacers or blocks, but if they fit with what I'm doing, I'll defer to TW's judgement.

Budget: $500-$1000. I feel like if I'm spending more than that, it will be overkill for what I'm using my truck for, and I'd be better off putting the money towards a 2020 4x4. My plan is to install everything myself so what I save on labor costs, I can put in to materials.

    Current planned parts list:

    Bilstein 5100s front/rear

ToyTec AAL and U-Bolts in the rear

For wheels, I plan on putting 17x9 Black Rhino Bantams and 265/70/17 BFG KO2s. I believe there should be no rubbing or anything with this set up. I will get it professionally aligned after everything is all done. The wheels/tires/alignment are not part of the above-mentioned budget.

I'm planning on setting the 5100s in the front at max lift which should give around 2", and I believe the AAL should give about 1.5" in the back. I'm more-or-less just fine with this but I wouldn't mind trying to get a bit more lift in the front. Given the light use the truck will see, is it okay to add a small spacer for the front to get to that 3" mark? I'll likely never fully bottom out the shocks so I think it won't be an issue but I am far from an expert here (the exact opposite, in fact). I'd go with a lower setting on the 5100s to accommodate the spacer. On the other hand, would it be better to get different springs to pair with the 5100s instead of the spacer?

I feel like I'm pretty much set for the rear, I think the 5100s and AALs will do just fine regardless of what I do in the front.

Thanks for the help guys, I am about green as it gets here so please let me know if I'm way off the mark.

Compressing the coil that much on front 5100's is not going to help your ride quality. You would be better off with a spacer at that point, but the proper way to do it is to get new coil springs from eibach or old man emu.
@HeadStrong Off-Road should be able to help you out.

887 OME (old man emu) coils, bilstein 5100s all around (set at no lift), 1.5" wheelers AAL (add a leaf). That's the best option at the cheapest price.

If you get the 885's then you will not need a spacer unless it's the 1/4 inch one to fix the taco lean. Also the ome springs are not meant to be compressed more than the lowest setting (0) on the 5100's

885 or 887 (887s will give you a little more lift in front). You will want the 5100s, no spacers (maybe the 1/4 top plate for drivers side lean). You'll also want the AAL, or else you'll be rolling with bro-lean. You'll also want to go up a tire size to 265-75-16 or 270-75-17 (depending on your rim size) or it may look a little goofy

This setup will be good for your usage. Substitute the 885 coils if you decide to do that.

Also add the 1/4 top plate spacer on the drivers side.

It sounds like adding the coils is the way to go, then. I'll go with the 887s. With those coils, would I want the 5100s at the lower setting or could I raise them up? Could I have the driver side one setting higher to account for the lean?

Going with headstrong, it looks like the simplest way would be to select what I want from this kit: https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p401/Coil/Bilstein_5100_Kit_(HS16BK-1).html

No, if you want more lift, go with a longer stiffer spring. They are not meant to compress on 5100's. Will rip/slip the retaining clip causing failure

No, leave the bilsteins at 0 setting, get the 1/4 top plate spacer on the drivers side, a spacer that small won't have any negative effect on your truck. Check out some pics between 887 and 885, sounds like a few guys on this thread recommend 885s.

Alright, so from everybody's input, it seems like the new course of action is as such:

Bilstein 5100s front/rear, keep the front at the lowest setting
    EMU 2887 or 2885 coils
1/4" block for the driver side
AALs in the rear (there doesn't seem to be much difference between brands here, correct me if I'm wrong)

And go with slightly larger tires to keep a good look.

I gotta say, this forum is amazing. I'm mostly amazed at how active it is. It's been years since I've been active on this kind of forum and this is bringing some memories back.

Yeah the 1.5" AAL are all the same, shouldn't matter. Just decide on 885 vs 887 and youre set. I'd recommend Nitto Ridge Grapplers for tires (supposedly run slightly bigger). Make sure to get an alignment after everything too. Do tires at same time as lift.

Man, you guys are great. One last question: how much of a challenge is it to assemble the shocks and coils? I can borrow/rent a coil compressor, but I can't seem to find a good guide on how to put them together.

Those things are the devil. Consider paying someone $80 money WELLLLLLLLLLL spent to not have to do it yourself and chance a potentially large injury.

I did it once on my truck and swore never to do it again. Then I was short on time recently when I had to disassemble/re-assemble my front suspension and used them again. I swore a second time to never use them again.

So, again, I recommend considering paying someone and consider it worth way more than going to the movie theater a few times and the bar once.

Good to know. The all-in-one kit from Headstrong seems to be the way to go as it has the shocks, coils, AALs, 1/4" spacer, and I can pay for the assembly.

Will do! Unfortunately it won't be for a while; I'm off on an "adventure" in the Middle East for about another 5 months. So right now the best I can do is order stuff each month and have it waiting for me for when I get home.

Are UCA’s required if I just want to add these coils & rear shocks? No lift.
