Howdy all, new here. I've never had a Yota before, so I'll ask y'all some questions after a short intro.

I started off with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, loved it. Then got a 2000 Cherokee with 6 inches of lift and all the fun accessories. It was great until gas hit $5/gal. So I sold it and got an '87 Samurai. It was fun while it lasted, but it's small and slowwwww. I like the idea of getting 20+mpg, having 4WD, and camping abilities... so I want to get a Toyota 4x4.

    I know this isn't a real Tacoma, it's a 4x4 Toyota Truck, but whatever.

What's it worth to you guys? I really dig the extended cab, shell, rack, and 22RE.

Hey welcome! These are some good trucks. They do have a few quirks, but nothing worth walking away from a Tacoma.

Don't count on getting 20+ mpg consistently. It can be done with the right driving habits/set up but most people end up in the mid to high teens.

    Quirks? Fill me in please
I would sacrifice a few MPG's that my Samurai gets to be able to drive 60 upill!

Is $3,800 ok? Seems like one of the cheaper ones out there

Seems pretty decent for the year and mileage. Maybe try and talk him down to 3 even and take a test drive first.

even though thats a pretty bulletproof engine thats quite a bit of miles.. i would try and look for a lower mileage truck. you can get a lower mileage truck for around that price

I'm looking to get a sub 150,000 mile 22RE. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for something like this with less miles for sure

If you find a well maintained truck with more than 150k, you should take a close look at the records/inspect it/consider it. My friend has 456,000 on his 22RE with the rebuild occurring at 450k.
I have had two 22RE with well over 300k. Of course, these are extremely well maintained vehicles with very strict service intervals.

If I had my choice between a truck with 120k miles, limited records, looks/runs good versus a 200k mile truck with every record since new, strict maintenance...I'd most likely take the higher mileage truck.

    I'd stick with a clutch and a 4 banger.

    Good luck.
