It's a foot difference. Choose which looks better. IMO. There are some bed campers for 6ft but not 5. I can't think of any other reason 1ft would matter. Most everything you would haul that you might need that extra foot, you can just let tail gate down. It's not suv, it's a truck. :)

A double cab long bed is almost as long as a full size pickup. Actually, I'm pretty sure it's LONGER overall than the F-150 single cab long bet (8 foot bed!) that I used to have.

    Park much?

Sorry bro, but that's incorrect. Short bed is 60.5" and long is 73.7"

The long bed has a slightly better ride and is better for towing. I traded in a 2012 ram 1500 crew cab and the length is almost identical. i haul a 12' ocean kayak so i need all the length i can get.

3 inches different in overall length.

I went with the SB because I haul very little and with the tailgate down it will work in a pinch most of the time. Also fits in the garage easier. Too much hail in the Springtime to leave one parked outside.

Imo, short bed looks better and is easier to drive, park, etc. But if you use the bed a lot, that extra foot comes in handy.

I plan to get a long bed. As said above, it's a truck and I'd like to be able to keep my fishing rods, camping and tailgate gear in the bed.

Sorry, I meant the overall length of the truck, not the length of the bed.

I will be getting a short bed.

The main reason I want a Tacoma over a Ram is size. The Tacoma can off-road where the Ram cannot physically fit. There are many trails that are just fine for a Tacoma but are extremely tight or impossible for a full size truck.

But, a DCLB is basically as long as a full size truck, so basically I'm back to square one.

It doesn't make sense to me why someone would get a DCLB TRD OR, but some people always wanted Toyota to make one, and for Toyota, they probably figured a few extra sales won't hurt.

Thanks for the input. I'm test driving a short bed TRD off road DC tomorrow, so I'll have a better idea of what to get. Cheers...

You really are just looking for an off-road vehicle then, not a truck to use for truck things. So go with the short bed, or a 4 Runner.

It doesn't make sense to me that people make off-road trucks.

At least I have never needed to haul a 10,000lb trailer over a boulder path. Or haul 2,000lbs of drywall out into the middle of nowhere.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
Pre runners. Also, I like the versatility of a bed. If I want to camp, I can carry all my shit, in it. If the next day I need to haul a couch to the dump, or pickup a refrigerator, it can happen.

The trd offroad tacoma is the most versatile factory made vehicle on the market, which is why I own one

If you are off-roading, get an AC OR. You get the LB and can carry all of your camping and OR crap -- shovels, fishing gear, ramps, bikes, dead animals etc., but have the shorter truck better suited for OR.

If you have a family and haul the occasional bag of mulch but like the masculinity of a truck, get the DCSB. Real mulch is sold by the yard btw.

If you have a family and haul lumber, ladders, kayak and dirty stuff somewhat often, get a DCLB.

If you need to haul a serious payload or pull a real trailer, get a full sized pickup.

    None needed.
A long bed is priced $610 more than the short bed (all $ are MSRP). Being that Towing and Tonneau are $650 options, JBL is $705 (w/P&T), Running boards $469-795, (all of which could be added later) The long bed is the best money spent!
If your only argument is the length is too much for trails than you are actually arguing for a Jeep Wrangler. I do understand the garage issue.

If you are looking to buy now or in the coming months, getting a short bed will be much easier. Toyota did not expect the demand for DCLB OR and is hardly making any
