Have you ever seen the toyota trucks that our guys use overseas? Every single one I have seen is a double cab short bed

Long bed for me. I haul latters, drywall, and all kinds of home improvement stuff. I do this more so than off roading The most off roading I will do is in the snow. I guess I could get the SR5 long bed or sport long bed. No offense to people who have the SR5 or sport but the OR looks more rugged to me. Especially when you put more aggressive AT tires on.

I just feel that is getting too versitile. I'm not going to take my expensive truck made for hauling and towing down a rock face or scrape it between trees. Especially when a new 250 runs 50k. It's better just to have two vehicles lol.

Trucks aren't really off-roading practical to me as your stuff is much better protected inside especially if you flip or roll.

I get the versitility of it for dabble but for true truck use and true off-road use it's too much to force one vehicle to have it all.

    Plus who doesn't want a truck AND a 4Runner!?

It all depends on what you want. If I want th o take my truck up against a sheer rock face wall, I'd own an late 80s early 90 toyota 4 runner or truck.

For an medium "overland" style vehicle, the taco does it for me

I ordered the long bed. It was pretty simple for me. I'll be using the bed more than I'll be off-road in a place where the longer wheel base would be an issue. If I were off-roading in a place where I needed a shorter wheel base and weren't using the truck to haul, I would have gotten the short bed.

Now, if I were doing both equally, I'd get a jeep and a truck.

I ordered DCSBOR 4x4 -- SB better for AZ off road and hunting with my bird dogs...also prefer the "look" of the SB. Nothing I ever needed to haul that wouldn't fit in the SB with bed extender...otherwise it will hang over the tailgate and I'll strap or tie it down. No-brainer for me.

when I buy it will be the long bed. I've seen quite a few family trips where my brother's frontier long bed was packed to the edge with the gate down. the extra foot wont make a big difference in parking but it will add a lot of storage space. more than you might think.

Also you can sleep in long bed if you need to. Quick one night camping trips with my kid if I get a shell I wont need to setup the tent.

We will only be getting a long bed. My wife plans to get a blow up mattress that goes over the wheel wells and tent that fits over the bed.
