So on my commute home a few days ago a rock hit the front of my hood and rolled into it creating a rather large and weird looking chip. As luck would have it, it also chipped a pillar on its way up and over! I have not seen this black layer before in any of the other chips I've repaired with a paint pen so I am looking for advice on how to deal with it. I don't even know what it is to be honest. I thought there were just three layers, clear, colour and primer?

Do you think a paint pen alone (colour and clear) can fix this? I'm not looking for perfection, just something that won't catch you eye or develop rust. Any Langka pros use it for something like this?

See the image with a dime for scale. Gotta love roads using gravel instead of salt/sand.

Thanks for the help folks! Been lurking for a year and this is my first thread!

Is it down to bare metal? I can't tell from the pic, if so I would get some touch up paint on it asap because its going to start rusting fast.

Howdy Eric!! Welcome to the TW Family...where we put the "fun" in "dysfunctional!"

I feel ya. Same damn thing happened to my Audi TT the first week of ownership. A rogue license plate flew down the road bouncing about like a ninja star. Hit my hood and then smacked my A pillar..sweet. Deep gouge from the corner of that bitch in the hood and pillar both. Right down to the metal. I had to take it to a professional but was fixed where you couldn't see it.

I might suggest you post over in the Detail section, these guys will know how to fix. Good luck!!
