Looking for Advice to get new wheels that are lightwight but strong for overlanding/trails

Quick question, i am thinking of dumping my Toyota TRD offroad wheels to replace with something lighter, currently each wheel with tire about 94.5 pounds, is there better options out there to go lighter and good strong quality (non steel). Just curious if anyone tried to lighten their wheels and what you went for?

Light and strong do not go together unless you want to spend $10K for fancy alloys, and then you won't shave much weight. Your challenge is tire weight.

The 3rd gen 16x7 off-road wheel is 24 pounds and change.

So you're running 70 pound tires?

 

OP- Nomad wheels are nice and basic, Volks wheels will be the lightest you’ll find but they’ll run about 1k per wheel. Method makes some light ones with bead grip tech, and Icon has some nice wheels to pair with the tacomas. Genuine Toyota Pro rims are great too, the offset is perfect for fitting 285s on a 2” lift(with minimal trimming/mods)
Tires will make the biggest weight difference, i run E load tires and they are over 50lb per. C/LT comparative tires weigh 40-45lb per.
Lots of options out there, and rolling weight is a big factor when modifying these trucks(power limited).
Only reason i run E load is due to the terrain here in SoCal deserts, the rocks will slice tires open easily(less issues with the E load 10 ply tire, but they do weigh more!)

 

My Konig Six Shooter 17x8" wheels make fitting skinny 35s relatively painless. The Konigs weigh 21 lb and have the snobby TE37 look. They're strong enough as long as the wheel doesn't smash directly into a rock...

Yeah the FN (Konig) Countersteer Type X 17x8 is also 21lbs and costs $1k for 4 wheels. Get C-rated tires if possible for a relatively lightweight package.

 

Your truck looks like it means business. Love the high clearance rear bumper.

 

I think the key is to really consider if you need the durability of LT tires since they add so much weight. Unless on really gnarly trails and airing down a lot I’d probably stick with P tires which will save a lot of weight.
