Adding a back up camera that requires a hot wire all the time. I had a look with a meter and could not find anything near the truck bed (wire is close to camera). So a have decided to bring the wire froward on the right side. Anything close in the wire bundle under the door sill?

That bundle must have something. Anyone know the color wire that Toyota uses for powered wires?

    Thanks, in advance

Why would a backup camera need a hot at all times power source? I would think it would only need power when it's in use (ie when the truck is in reverse).

There's nothing at the back of the truck that's going to have power at all times without modification.
If you have the tow package I suppose you could pull the BATT CHG Relay and jump pins 3 & 5, that would give you constant power to + terminal (Black wire) at the trailer plug.

This Camera system has the option of viewing the camera thru the display when the car is not in reverse. So the way it works it needs a always hot and switches thru the display. Pain in the butt.

I think I am just going to add a circuit to a fuse and be done with it.

So it needs a hot with the engine running, that's easily accomplished if you have the tow package. If not you would have to run a dedicated wire.

Ah bummer, then no there's nothing at the back of the truck that has power.

I just hardwired a dashcam, and assuming the 2007 interior fuse panel is the same, I tapped the top right 15A fuse (2nd from right) for constant power.

I use poutlet1 for this, for my front camera in my 2016 Tacoma (see my build thread) and for my rear camera in my ‘02 Tundra. Haven’t done my ‘05 yet but will do the same most likely. A high current relay can be used in the cab to supply more juice.

you have to route the video into the cab anyway so may as well do power off ignition and poutlet1 is the best option in my opinion.

add a fuse works or just directly steal and ideally route to a high current relay off fused battery power so you can also feed a usb charger where the 12v socket once lived.
